Journal ArticleDOI
Ubiquitous formation of bulk Dirac cones and topological surface states from a single orbital manifold in transition-metal dichalcogenides
Mohammad Saeed Bahramy,Mohammad Saeed Bahramy,O. J. Clark,Bohm-Jung Yang,Jiagui Feng,L. Bawden,J. M. Riley,Igor Marković,Igor Marković,Federico Mazzola,Veronika Sunko,Veronika Sunko,Deepnarayan Biswas,S. P. Cooil,M. R. Jorge,Justin W. Wells,M. Leandersson,Thiagarajan Balasubramanian,Jun Fujii,Ivana Vobornik,Julien E. Rault,Timur K. Kim,Moritz Hoesch,Kenjiro Okawa,M. Asakawa,Takao Sasagawa,T. Eknapakul,Worawat Meevasana,Philip D. C. King +28 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus on the transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) and find that these generically host a co-existence of type-I and type-II three-dimensional bulk Dirac fermions as well as ladders of topological surface states and surface resonances.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fermiology and Superconductivity of Topological Surface States in PdTe2
O. J. Clark,Matthew Neat,Kenjiro Okawa,L. Bawden,Igor Marković,Igor Marković,Federico Mazzola,Jiagui Feng,Veronika Sunko,Veronika Sunko,J. M. Riley,Worawat Meevasana,Jun Fujii,Ivana Vobornik,Timur K. Kim,Moritz Hoesch,Takao Sasagawa,Peter Wahl,Mohammad Saeed Bahramy,Mohammad Saeed Bahramy,Phil D. C. King +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors gratefully acknowledge support from the Leverhulme Trust, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, UK (Grant Nos. EP/M023427/1 and EP/I031014/1), the Royal Society.
Journal ArticleDOI
Maximal Rashba-like spin splitting via kinetic-energy-coupled inversion-symmetry breaking
Veronika Sunko,Veronika Sunko,H. Rosner,Pallavi Kushwaha,Seunghyun Khim,Federico Mazzola,L. Bawden,O. J. Clark,J. M. Riley,Deepa Kasinathan,Maurits W. Haverkort,Maurits W. Haverkort,Timur K. Kim,Moritz Hoesch,Jun Fujii,Ivana Vobornik,Andrew P. Mackenzie,Andrew P. Mackenzie,Phil D. C. King +18 more
TL;DR: The findings therefore provide opportunities for creating spin-textured states and suggest routes to interfacial control of inversion-symmetry breaking in designer heterostructures of oxides and other material classes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spin-valley locking in the normal state of a transition-metal dichalcogenide superconductor
L. Bawden,S. P. Cooil,Federico Mazzola,J. M. Riley,L. Collins-Mcintyre,Veronika Sunko,Kristoffer William Bø Hunvik,M. Leandersson,Craig M. Polley,Thiagarajan Balasubramanian,Timur K. Kim,Moritz Hoesch,Justin W. Wells,Geetha Balakrishnan,Mohammad Saeed Bahramy,Mohammad Saeed Bahramy,Phil D. C. King +16 more
TL;DR: The normal state of 2H-NbSe2 is characterized by quasiparticles whose spin is locked to their valley pseudospin, which results from a combination of strong spin–orbit interactions and local inversion symmetry breaking, while interlayer coupling further drives a rich three-dimensional momentum dependence of the underlying Fermi-surface spin texture.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nearly free electrons in a 5d delafossite oxide metal
Pallavi Kushwaha,Veronika Sunko,Veronika Sunko,Philip J. W. Moll,L. Bawden,J. M. Riley,Nabhanila Nandi,Helge Rosner,Marcus Schmidt,Frank Arnold,Elena Hassinger,Timur K. Kim,Moritz Hoesch,Andrew P. Mackenzie,Philip D. C. King +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered the Pt-based delafossite oxide PtCoO2 and showed that the underlying Fermi surface is a single cylinder of nearly hexagonal cross-section, with very weak dispersion along kz.
