Reproductive investment when mate quality varies: differential allocation versus reproductive compensation.

TL;DR: The state-based approach to investigate the circumstances under which the variation in mate quality results in differential female investment into offspring and how this interacts with female energetic resource levels found that a pattern of increased investment when mating with high-quality mates was the most common optimal investment strategy for females in the model.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhanced ectodysplasin-A receptor (EDAR) signaling alters multiple fiber characteristics to produce the East Asian hair form.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that elevation of Edar activity in transgenic mice converts their hair phenotype to the typical East Asian morphology, and shows that the multiple differences in hair form between East Asian and other human populations can be explained by the simplest of genetic alterations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Constraints on evolution and postcopulatory sexual selection: trade-offs among ejaculate characteristics.

TL;DR: A quantitative genetic study of the components of the ejaculate of the cockroach Nauphoeta cinerea, including those the authors know to experience postcopulatory sexual selection, in the context of functional integration of ejaculate characters suggests that there are important trade‐offs among individual traits ofThe ejaculate and that evolution of ejaculates characteristics will not proceed unconstrained.
Journal ArticleDOI

Use of Stimulan absorbable calcium sulphate beads in revision lower limb arthroplasty: Safety profile and complication rates.

TL;DR: The strength of this study lies in the large number of patients and the detailed data collection, making it the most comprehensive report available in the literature on the use of calcium sulphate-based bone substitutes.
Journal ArticleDOI

"My mentor didn't speak to me for the first four weeks": Perceived Unfairness experienced by nursing students in clinical practice settings.

TL;DR: Student nurses can feel like they are being treated unfairly in the clinical area in numerous ways, so identifying ways in which mentorship practice can be developed to adequately support education is important.
