Journal ArticleDOI

Nitric oxide inhalation in the intensive care unit

TL;DR: In an injured lung with pulmonary hypertension, inhaled NO produces local vasodilation of wellventilated lung units and may 'steal' blood flow away from unventilated regions, which reduces intrapulmonary shunting and may improve systemic arterial oxygenation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nitric oxide regulates pulmonary vascular smooth muscle cell expression of the inducible cAMP early repressor gene

TL;DR: The results suggest that induction of ICER gene expression by NO requires both CREB phosphorylation and Ca(2+) signaling, highlighting a novel cross-talk mechanism between cGMP and cAMP signaling pathways.
