TL;DR: This study provides a national-scale analysis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) superspreading during the first wave of infections in Austria, a country that played a major role in initial virus transmissions in Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum triglyceride concentrations and cancer risk in a large cohort study in Austria
Hanno Ulmer,Wegene Borena,Kilian Rapp,Jochen Klenk,Alexander Strasak,G. Diem,Hans Concin,Gabriele Nagel +7 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that serum triglyceride concentrations are involved in the pathogenesis of lung, rectal, thyroid, prostate, and gynaecological cancers is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of four SARS-CoV-2 neutralization assays
Lydia Riepler,Annika Rössler,Albert Falch,André Volland,Wegene Borena,Dorothee von Laer,Janine Kimpel +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared four different SARS-CoV-2 neutralization assays using the same set of patient samples and found that the results obtained with different assays are comparable.
Journal ArticleDOI
Time-dependent association of total serum cholesterol and cancer incidence in a cohort of 172 210 men and women: a prospective 19-year follow-up study
Alexander Strasak,Ruth M. Pfeiffer,Larry J. Brant,Kilian Rapp,Wolfgang Hilbe,Willi Oberaigner,Stefan Lang,Wegene Borena,Hans Concin,G. Diem,Elfriede Ruttmann,B. Glodny,Karl P. Pfeiffer,Hanno Ulmer +13 more
TL;DR: The short-term decrease of cancer risk seen for high levels of TSC may largely capture preclinical effects of cancer on TSC, which is mainly driven by malignancies of the digestive organs and lymphoid and hematopoietic tissue.
Journal ArticleDOI
Emergence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Austria.
Peter Kreidl,Daniela Schmid,Sabine Maritschnik,Lukas Richter,Wegene Borena,Jakob-Wendelin Genger,Alexandra Popa,Thomas Penz,Christoph Bock,Andreas Bergthaler,Franz Allerberger +10 more
TL;DR: In this report, undetected transmission of SARS-CoV‑2 had been ongoing in Ischgl prior to the first laboratory confirmed cases, and it is considered that the incriminated barkeeper, who tested PCR positive on 7 March, was neither the primary case nor a superspreader.
