Human recombinant soluble ACE2 in severe COVID-19.
Alexander Zoufaly,Marko Poglitsch,Judith H. Aberle,Wolfgang Hoepler,Tamara Seitz,Marianna Traugott,Alexander Grieb,Erich Pawelka,Hermann Laferl,Christoph Wenisch,Stephanie Neuhold,Doris Haider,Karin Stiasny,Andreas Bergthaler,Elisabeth Puchhammer-Stoeckl,Ali Mirazimi,Nuria Montserrat,Haibo Zhang,Arthur S. Slutsky,Josef M. Penninger +19 more
TL;DR: It is shown that hrsACE2 can reduce SARS-CoV-2 load by a factor of 1000–5000 in in-vitro cell-culture experiments and engineered organoids, directly demonstrating that ACE2 can effectively neutralise Sars-Cov-2.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic epidemiology of superspreading events in Austria reveals mutational dynamics and transmission properties of SARS-CoV-2.
Alexandra Popa,Jakob-Wendelin Genger,Michael D. Nicholson,Thomas Penz,Daniela Schmid,Stephan W. Aberle,Benedikt Agerer,Alexander Lercher,Lukas Endler,Henrique G. Colaço,Mark J. Smyth,Michael Schuster,Miguel L. Grau,Francisco Martínez-Jiménez,Oriol Pich,Wegene Borena,Erich Pawelka,Zsofia Keszei,Martin Senekowitsch,Jan Laine,Judith H. Aberle,Monika Redlberger-Fritz,Mario Karolyi,Alexander Zoufaly,Sabine Maritschnik,Martin Borkovec,Peter Hufnagl,Manfred Nairz,Günter Weiss,Michael T. Wolfinger,Dorothee von Laer,Giulio Superti-Furga,Giulio Superti-Furga,Nuria Lopez-Bigas,Elisabeth Puchhammer-Stöckl,Franz Allerberger,Franziska Michor,Christoph Bock,Christoph Bock,Andreas Bergthaler +39 more
TL;DR: This study provides a national-scale analysis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) superspreading during the first wave of infections in Austria, a country that played a major role in initial virus transmissions in Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI
SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in rituximab-treated patients: B cells promote humoral immune responses in the presence of T-cell-mediated immunity.
Daniel Mrak,Selma Tobudic,Maximilian Koblischke,Marianne Graninger,Helga Radner,Daniela Sieghart,Philipp Hofer,Thomas Perkmann,Helmuth Haslacher,Renate Thalhammer,Stefan Winkler,Stephan Blüml,Karin Stiasny,Judith H. Aberle,Josef S Smolen,Leonhard X. Heinz,Daniel Aletaha,Michael Bonelli +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, SARS-CoV-2-specific T-cell responses were quantified by IFNγ enzyme-linked immunosorbent spot assays using the Elecsys Anti-SARS CoV2 S immunoassay against the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein and neutralisation tests.
Journal ArticleDOI
Single versus dual respiratory virus infections in hospitalized infants: impact on clinical course of disease and interferon-gamma response.
Judith H. Aberle,Stephan W. Aberle,Elisabeth Pracher,Hans-Peter Hutter,Michael Kundi,Therese Popow-Kraupp +5 more
TL;DR: It was found that dual infections with non-RSV respiratory viruses induced peripheral blood mononuclear cell IFN-γ responses that mimic those of single infections, whereas coinfection with RSV was associated with reduced IFN -γ responses and a more severe clinical course of lower respiratory tract disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effectiveness of reverse transcription-PCR, virus isolation, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for diagnosis of influenza A virus infection in different age groups
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that the ELISA is reliable for rapid laboratory diagnosis of influenza in infants and young children, but for older patients application of RT-PCR or virus isolation is necessary to avoid false negative results.
