Unraveling Stress‐Induced Toxicity Properties of Graphene Oxide and the Underlying Mechanism
Wendi Zhang,Chi Wang,Zhongjun Li,Zhenzhen Lu,Yiye Li,Jun-Jie Yin,Yu-Ting Zhou,Xingfa Gao,Ying Fang,Guangjun Nie,Yuliang Zhao +10 more
TL;DR: Graphene oxide shows stress-induced toxicity properties in vivo under different pathophysiological conditions and a dual-path chemical mechanism, involving the overproduction of hydroxyl radicals and the formation of oxidizing cytochrome c intermediates, is responsible for the toxicity properties.
Journal ArticleDOI
Energy metabolism analysis reveals the mechanism of inhibition of breast cancer cell metastasis by PEG-modified graphene oxide nanosheets
Teng Zhou,Bo Zhang,Peng Wei,Yipeng Du,Hejiang Zhou,Meifang Yu,Liang Yan,Wendi Zhang,Guangjun Nie,Chunying Chen,Yaping Tu,Taotao Wei +11 more
TL;DR: The results indicated that PEG-GO selectively down-regulated PGC-1α in breast cancer cells and thus modified the expression of diverse energy generation-related proteins, which accounts for the inhibition of OXPHOS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deciphering the underlying mechanisms of oxidation-state dependent cytotoxicity of graphene oxide on mammalian cells.
Wendi Zhang,Liang Yan,Meng Li,Ruisheng Zhao,Xiao Yang,Tianjiao Ji,Zhanjun Gu,Jun-Jie Yin,Xingfa Gao,Guangjun Nie +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the cytotoxicity of three GO samples with various oxidation degrees on mouse embryo fibroblasts (MEFs) and found that the less oxidized GO produced a higher level of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
Journal ArticleDOI
Biosafety assessment of Gd@C82(OH)22 nanoparticles on Caenorhabditis elegans
TL;DR: It is shown that Gd@C(82)(OH)(22) is tolerated well by worms and it has no apparent toxic effects on longevity, stress resistance, growth and behaviors that were observed in both adult and young worms.
