TL;DR: Combined reporting of tumor and germline WES identified diagnostic and/or potentially actionable findings in nearly 40% of newly diagnosed pediatric patients with solid tumors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fetoscopic Open Neural Tube Defect Repair: Development and Refinement of a Two-Port, Carbon Dioxide Insufflation Technique.
Michael A. Belfort,William E. Whitehead,Alireza A. Shamshirsaz,Zhoobin H. Bateni,Oluyinka O. Olutoye,Olutoyin A. Olutoye,David G. Mann,Jimmy Espinoza,Erin Williams,Timothy C. Lee,Sundeep G. Keswani,Nancy Ayres,Christopher I. Cassady,Amy R. Mehollin-Ray,Magdalena Sanz Cortes,Elena Carreras,Jose L. Peiro,Rodrigo Ruano,Darrell L. Cass +18 more
TL;DR: Fetoscopic open neural tube defect repair does not appear to increase maternal-fetal complications as compared with repair by hysterotomy, allows for vaginal delivery, and may reduce long-term maternal risks.
Journal ArticleDOI
A standardized protocol to reduce cerebrospinal fluid shunt infection: The Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network Quality Improvement Initiative
John R. W. Kestle,Jay Riva-Cambrin,John C. Wellons,Abhaya V. Kulkarni,William E. Whitehead,Marion L. Walker,W. Jerry Oakes,James M. Drake,Thomas G. Luerssen,Tamara D. Simon,Richard Holubkov +10 more
TL;DR: In an effort to reduce the ventriculoperitoneal shunt infection rate, a standardized protocol was developed and implemented at 4 centers of the Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network (HCRN) as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk factors for shunt malfunction in pediatric hydrocephalus: a multicenter prospective cohort study
Jay Riva-Cambrin,John R. W. Kestle,Richard Holubkov,Jerry Butler,Abhaya V. Kulkarni,James M. Drake,William E. Whitehead,John C. Wellons,Chevis N. Shannon,Mandeep S. Tamber,David D. Limbrick,Curtis J. Rozzelle,Samuel R. Browd,Tamara D. Simon +13 more
TL;DR: This is the largest prospective study reported on children with CSF shunts for hydrocephalus and confirms that a young age and the use of the endoscope are risk factors for first shunt failure and that valve type has no impact.
Journal ArticleDOI
Novel somatic and germline mutations in intracranial germ cell tumours
Linghua Wang,Shigeru Yamaguchi,Matthew D. Burstein,Keita Terashima,Kyle Chang,Ho Keung Ng,Hideo Nakamura,Zongxiao He,Harshavardhan Doddapaneni,Lora Lewis,Mark Wang,Tomonari Suzuki,Ryo Nishikawa,Atsushi Natsume,Shunsuke Terasaka,Robert C. TL;DR: A molecular foundation for understanding the biology of IGCTs is established and potentially promising therapeutic strategies focusing on the inhibition of KIT/RAS activation and the AKT1/mTOR pathway are suggested.
