Bierhaus,Patrick Michel,William F. Bottke,Michael C. Nolan,Harold C. Connolly,Dante S. Lauretta,Osiris-Rex Team +42 more
TL;DR: Combining the measured Bennu mass and shape obtained during the Preliminary Survey phase of the OSIRIS-REx mission, a notable transition is found in Bennu’s surface slopes within its rotational Roche lobe, defined as the region where material is energetically trapped to the surface.
Journal ArticleDOI
Small body surface gravity fields via spherical harmonic expansions
TL;DR: In this paper, two types of other spherical harmonic gravity fields that bridge the null space of the exterior/interior gravity field expressions by solving Poisson's equation are discussed, referred to as the interior/exterior spherical Bessel gravity fields.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trajectory Estimation for Particles Observed in the Vicinity of (101955) Bennu
Steven R. Chesley,A. S. French,A. B. Davis,Robert A. Jacobson,Marina Brozovic,Davide Farnocchia,S. Selznick,Andrew J. Liounis,Carl Hergenrother,Michael C. Moreau,J. Y. Pelgrift,E. J. Lessac-Chenen,Jamie Molaro,Ryan S. Park,Ben Rozitis,Daniel J. Scheeres,Y. Takahashi,David Vokrouhlický,C. W. V. Wolner,Coralie D. Adam,Brent J. Bos,Eric Christensen,Josh Emery,J. M. Leonard,Jay W. McMahon,Michael C. Nolan,F. Shelly,Dante S. Lauretta +27 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the trajectories of 313 particles seen in the near-Bennu environment between December 2018 and September 2019 were analyzed and it was shown that 65% follow sub-orbital trajectories, 20% undergo more than one orbital revolution around the asteroid, and 15% directly escape on hyperbolic trajectories.
Journal ArticleDOI
Heterogeneous mass distribution of the rubble-pile asteroid (101955) Bennu
Daniel J. Scheeres,A. S. French,Pasquale Tricarico,Steven R. Chesley,Y. Takahashi,Davide Farnocchia,Jay W. McMahon,D. N. Brack,A. B. Davis,Ronald-Louis Ballouz,Erica Jawin,Ben Rozitis,Josh Emery,Andrew Ryan,Ryan S. Park,Brian Rush,N. Mastrodemos,Brian Kennedy,Julie Bellerose,Daniel P. Lubey,D. Velez,Andrew T. Vaughan,J. M. Walsh,Michael C. Nolan,Dante S. Lauretta +49 more
TL;DR: The asteroid (101955) Bennu has a heterogeneous internal mass distribution with an underdense center and equatorial bulge, which is consistent with recent migration and redistribution of material.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spin State and Moment of Inertia Characterization of 4179 Toutatis
TL;DR: In this paper, Toutatis' spin state dynamics are estimated from observations of five flybys between 1992 and 2008, with the solar and terrestrial tidal torques incorporated in the dynamical model.
