Journal ArticleDOI
Classification of charge density waves based on their nature
TL;DR: It is shown that a large EPC does not necessarily induce the CDW phase, with Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ as the example, and the charge-ordered phenomena observed in various cuprates are not driven by FSN or EPC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Artificial two-dimensional polar metal at room temperature
Yanwei Cao,Yanwei Cao,Zhen Wang,Zhen Wang,Se Young Park,Yakun Yuan,Xiaoran Liu,Sergey M. Nikitin,Hirofumi Akamatsu,Mikhail Kareev,Srimanta Middey,Srimanta Middey,Derek Meyers,Paul Thompson,Philip Ryan,Philip Ryan,Padraic Shafer,Alpha T. N'Diaye,Elke Arenholz,Venkatraman Gopalan,Yimei Zhu,Karin M. Rabe,Jak Chakhalian +22 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a room temperature two-dimensional polar metal of the B-site type in tri-color (tri-layer) superlattices BaTiO3/SrTiO4/LaTiO5/La TiO3 was realized using an atomic resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy with electron energy-loss spectroscopy, optical second harmonic generation, electrical transport, and first-principles calculations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Engineered Mott ground state in a LaTiO3+δ/LaNiO3 heterostructure
Yanwei Cao,Xiaoran Liu,Michael Kareev,Debraj Choudhury,Debraj Choudhury,Srimanta Middey,Derek Meyers,Jong-Woo Kim,Philip Ryan,John W. Freeland,J. Chakhalian +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, a prototypical superlattice composed of a correlated metal LaNiO3 and a doped Mott insulator LaTiO(3+δ) was synthesized, which exhibits interfacial charge transfer from Ti to Ni sites, giving rise to an insulating ground state with orbital polarization and e(g) orbital band splitting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polarity compensation in ultra-thin films of complex oxides: The case of a perovskite nickelate
Srimanta Middey,Pablo Rivero,Derek Meyers,Michael Kareev,X. Liu,Yanwei Cao,John W. Freeland,Salvador Barraza-Lopez,Jak Chakhalian +8 more
TL;DR: First-principles layer-resolved calculations of the potential energy across the nominal LaNiO3/SrTiO3 interface confirm that the oxygen vacancies can efficiently reduce the electric field at the interface.

TL;DR: In this paper, a room temperature two-dimensional polar metal of the B-site type in tri-color (tri-layer) superlattices BaTiO$_3$/SrTiO¼¼$/LaTiO ¼$¼3$ was realized by a combination of atomic resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy with electron energy loss spectroscopy, optical second harmonic generation, electrical transport, and first-principles calculations.
