Engineered Mott ground state in a LaTiO3+δ/LaNiO3 heterostructure

TL;DR: In this article, a prototypical superlattice composed of a correlated metal LaNiO3 and a doped Mott insulator LaTiO(3+δ) was synthesized, which exhibits interfacial charge transfer from Ti to Ni sites, giving rise to an insulating ground state with orbital polarization and e(g) orbital band splitting.

Artificial two-dimensional polar metal at room temperature

TL;DR: In this paper, a room temperature two-dimensional polar metal of the B-site type in tri-color (tri-layer) superlattices BaTiO$_3$/SrTiO¼¼$/LaTiO ¼$¼3$ was realized by a combination of atomic resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy with electron energy loss spectroscopy, optical second harmonic generation, electrical transport, and first-principles calculations.
