Proceedings ArticleDOI

The price of uncertainty

TL;DR: It is shown that in certain cases, even extremely small fluctuations can cause best-response dynamics to spin out of control and move to states of much higher social cost, whereas in other cases these dynamics are much more stable even to large degrees of fluctuation.

Doubleclick Ad Exchange Auction

TL;DR: This work describes the challenges of designing a suitable auction, and presents a simple auction called the Optional Second Price (OSP) auction that is currently used in Doubleclick Ad Exchange.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Time-Optimal Self-Stabilizing Synchronizer Using A Phase Clock

TL;DR: This paper gives a simple rule by which each node can compute its pulse number as a function of its neighbors' pulse numbers, and argues that the use of unbounded counters can be justified by the availability of memory for counters that are large enough to be practically unbounded.
Book ChapterDOI

Approximate Equivalence of Markov Decision Processes

TL;DR: It is suggested that the right measure for finding minimal e-equivalent model is L 1 rather than L ∞ by giving both an example, which demonstrates the drawback of using L∞, and performance guarantees for using L 1.

Online Learning with Global Cost Functions

TL;DR: An algorithm is designed that guarantees vanishing regret for an online learning setting where at each time step the decision maker has to choose how to distribute the future loss between k alternatives, and then observes the loss of each alternative.
