Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of spike glycoprotein of SARS-CoV-2 on virus entry and its immune cross-reactivity with SARS-CoV.

TL;DR: It is shown that the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein is less stable than that of SARS -CoV, and limited cross-neutralization activities between SARS and COVID-19 patients’ sera showlimited cross- neutralization activities, suggesting that recovery from one infection might not protect against the other.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of the Fusion Peptide-Containing Region in Betacoronavirus Spike Glycoproteins

TL;DR: The location and amino acid sequences of the FPs of S glycoproteins of 3 β-CoVs, MERS- coV, SARS-CoV, and MHV were determined and it was demonstrated that they were essential for mediating cell-cell fusion and virus entry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Crystal structure of the receptor binding domain of the spike glycoprotein of human betacoronavirus HKU1

TL;DR: Five residues in the insertion subdomain that are critical for binding of neutralizing antibodies and two residues essential for receptor binding are identified, contributing to a better understanding of entry, immunity and evolution of CoV S proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Crystal structure of 2A proteinase from hand, foot and mouth disease virus

TL;DR: The structural and mutagenesis study demonstrated that both the negative charging and the correct positioning of the C-terminus are essential for EV71 replication and establish a framework for structure-based inhibitor design.
