Remote sensing evidence for baroclinic tide origin of internal solitary waves in the northeastern South China Sea

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented evidence for baroclinic tide origin of internal solitary waves (ISWs) in the northeastern South China Sea, based on 116 internal wave packets observed in satellite images from 1995 to 2001.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global Observations of Open-Ocean Mode-1 M2Internal Tides

TL;DR: In this paper, a global map of open-ocean mode-1 M2 internal tides is constructed using sea surface height (SSH) measurements from multiple satellite altimeters during 1992-2012, representing a 20-yr coherent internal tide field.
Journal ArticleDOI

Internal waves across the Pacific

TL;DR: In this paper, the long-range propagation of the semidiurnal internal tide northward from the Hawaiian ridge and its susceptibility to parametric subharmonic instability (PSI) at the critical latitude, λc = 28.8°N, were examined in spring 2006 with intensive shipboard and moored observations spanning 25-37°N along a tidal beam.
Journal ArticleDOI

Long-Range Propagation of the Semidiurnal Internal Tide from the Hawaiian Ridge

TL;DR: In this article, the northeastward progression of the semidiurnal internal tide from French Frigate Shoals (FFS), Hawaii, is studied with an array of six simultaneous profiling moorings spanning 25.5°-37.1°N (≈1400 km) and 13-yr-long Ocean Topography Experiment (TOPEX)/Poseidon (T/P) altimeter data processed by a new technique.
