TL;DR: Five families of single-spore isolates of the bioherbicide fungus Chondrostereum purpureum exhibited tetrapolar mating patterns when paired in culture, indicating unrestricted outcrossing ability.

TL;DR: The addition of the earthworm module to the Romul_Hum model allows assessment of the combined effects of earthworms cast production, and micro- and meso-faunal food web activity within the casts, on the formation of stable SOM.

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of experiments was conducted between 1977 and 1981 to evaluate the effects of aerially applied permethrin on forest stream invertebrates, and the results showed that all permithrin applications to forest streams resulted in large drift increases, and most produced measurable reductions in benthos density.
Abstract: A series of experiments was conducted between 1977 and 1981 to evaluate the effects of aerially applied permethrin on forest stream invertebrates. All permethrin applications to forest streams resulted in large drift increases, and most produced measurable reductions in benthos density. Recovery of benthic fauna following the various permethrin applications was apparent from 1 to 18 months post-spray. In double-application experiments, the second treatments reduced benthos density to a point at which recovery of numbers was slower than after the impact resulting from a single application of the same dosage.

TL;DR: During a severe outbreak of spruce budworm, some balsam fir trees, Abies balsamea (L.) Mill.
Abstract: During a severe outbreak of spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana (Clem.), some balsam fir trees, Abies balsamea (L.) Mill., remain noticeably greener than others in the same stand. We show that this ‘green’ tree phenomenon is not caused by differential defoliation in which certain trees experience consistently low defoliation pressure throughout an outbreak. Rather, these trees remain ‘green’ because of their prolific, epicormic shoot production which is consistently high during an outbreak, giving them a ‘greener’ appearance than other trees that produce lower numbers of epicormic shoots.

TL;DR: T. lineatum to ethanol and α-pinene, when used with the pheromone lineatin, was tested for two trap types and male-female ratios were significantly lower for both types of traps when ethanol was included in the bait than for lineatin alone or with α-pinsene.
Abstract: The response ofT. lineatum to ethanol and α-pinene, when used with the pheromone lineatin, was tested for two trap types. Funnel traps, which are passive barrier traps, caught significantly more beetles than drainpipe traps, which require an active response by the beetle to enter the trap. However, the response ofT. lineatum to the semiochemical treatments did not significantly differ for the two trap types. Treatments that included α-pinene with the pheromone, either with or without ethanol, caught significantly moreT. lineatin than those with the pheromone alone. When ethanol and or α-pinene were added to the pheromone significantly more female beetles were trapped than with pheromone alone. Male-female ratios were significantly lower for both types of traps when ethanol was included in the bait than for lineatin alone or with α-pinene. A higher percentage of male beetles entered the drainpipe traps than was captured with funnel traps.
