TL;DR: Clinician interactional style characteristics contributing to patient response to perinatal depression referral and treatment imply that the way in which clinicians interact with patients about depression might strongly influence patient responses.
Abstract: Most women with depression around the time of childbearing are not treated adequately, or at all. Clinical practice guidelines focus primarily on provision of information rather than on interaction factors. In this study, we explored clinician interactional style characteristics contributing to patient response to perinatal depression referral and treatment. Stratified purposeful sampling resulted in 23 participants selected by pregnancy, socioeconomic, and depression status. Participants completed semistructured interviews exploring their experiences with and preferences for clinician interactional style characteristics in the context of obstetrics-setting referral and delivery of depression treatment. Thematic analysis revealed a central theme related to interactional cues that influence women's reactions to clinical encounters, summarized by the question, "Can this person help me?" Women evaluated this question in four domains: feeling heard, developing trust in the clinician, perceiving technical competence in the clinician, and feeling that the intervention focus is effectively chosen and communicated. Our results imply that, in addition to informational factors, the way in which clinicians interact with patients about depression might strongly influence patient responses.

TL;DR: Gibson's final book, The Senses Considered as Perceptual Systems (1979/1986) as discussed by the authors, provides a more explicit attention to human evolution and sociocultural processes than do his other writings.
Abstract: James Gibson's final book, The Ecological Approach to Visual Perception (1979/1986) may have had the unintended effect of overshadowing his prior, seminal work, The Senses Considered as Perceptual Systems (1966). This circumstance is unfortunate because in many ways the final book has a narrower focus. The Senses Considered as Perceptual Systems not only considers other perceptual systems in addition to vision but also it is in this work where Gibson most fully lays out his ecological approach to psychology. In doing so, the book gives more explicit attention to human evolution and sociocultural processes than do his other writings. Although Gibson establishes a framework for considering perception–action commonalities across species, he also examines some of the ways in which perceiving among human and nonhuman animals differ. Among those issues examined are how tool use in the production of pictures and representations has contributed to cultural change, how language can affect perceiving, and h...

TL;DR: "Modern Statistical Systems, and GPSS Simulation" offers a conceptual basis for simulation in any language and includes the most important elements for design and analysis of a simulation and supplies the basis for a course on GPSS simulation language.
Abstract: This text integrates coverage of both the theory and the implementation of discrete-event simulation. Neither is stressed to the exclusion of the other. This book allows the reader to integrate theory and computer implementation or concentrate on either. "Modern Statistical Systems, and GPSS Simulation" offers a conceptual basis for simulation in any language. It includes the most important elements for design and analysis of a simulation and supplies the basis for a course on GPSS simulation language. The book also illustrates how to incorporate the best - random number generators with run - length choices and output analysis methods.

TL;DR: In this paper, a correlation between the Silurian Vinalhaven (Maine, USA) intrusive complex and associated volcanic rocks is proposed, which is consistent with the overall stratigraphy of spatially, temporally, and compositionally related volcanic rocks.
Abstract: New insights into the nature and construction of granitic intrusions provide an opportunity to correlate the rock record of an intrusion to the rock record of volcanism related to the intrusion. We attempt such a correlation between the Silurian Vinalhaven (Maine, USA) intrusive complex and associated volcanic rocks. The largely granitic Vinalhaven intrusion includes a stratigraphic sequence of interlayered gabbro, diorite, and minor granite that preserves field evidence for mingling of coexisting mafic and silicic magmas in a series of ephemeral silicic magma chambers. Within this stratigraphy, blocks of country rocks occur at a number of stratabound horizons in association with mafic sheets. The along-strike lithologic variation of the blocks mirrors the lithologic variation of country rocks along the northern margin of the intrusion, which appears to be the only preserved portion of the intrusion's roof. The limited stratigraphic distribution and correlation of lithologies to the roof suggest that the country-rock blocks were stoped during short-lived roof collapse events rather than continuously over the lifetime of the chamber. We suggest that these stratabound roof blocks record collapse of the roof during eruptions from the system, perhaps triggered by the influx of mafic magma, and represent one large caldera-forming eruption followed by a series of smaller eruptions. This interpreted eruptive history of the pluton is consistent with the overall stratigraphy of spatially, temporally, and compositionally related volcanic rocks.
