TL;DR: The Douglasian Cultural Framework (DCF) as discussed by the authors is a transactional cultural approach to explain people's behaviors without evoking nationality-based behavioral generalizations and lends itself to applications across levels, scales and geo-ethnic boundaries, and explain social change as a never-ending, unpredictable phenomenon.
Abstract: Frameworks of national/societal culture approach (NCA), although popular, are unsuitable for cultural sense-making when: (1) people's national/corporate identities become blurred; (2) the focus is on cultural diversity within an entity; and (3) the cultural phenomenon spans across levels, scales and geo-ethnic boundaries. To serve as an alternative to NCA in these scenarios, a cultural framework must: (1) explain people's behaviors without evoking nationality-based behavioral generalizations; (2) lend itself to applications across levels, scales and geo-ethnic boundaries; (3) explain social change as a never-ending, unpredictable phenomenon; and (4) explain conformity and diversity of human behavior. In search of such a framework, we review anthropology literature, more precisely Barth's transactional culture approach. Our search leads us to the Douglasian cultural framework (DCF). We show that DCF meets the aforementioned criteria, and has been successfully used by scholars as a transactional cultural tool in scenarios where NCA frameworks are unsuitable.

TL;DR: In this paper, a moral philosophical analysis of the component decisions that make up any act of whistleblowing is presented to contribute to a more balanced and less polarised treatment of the topic.
Abstract: Discussions of whistleblowing whether in academic literature or in more popular media have tended to very one-sided assessments of the moral worth of the act. Indeed, much of the current literature concentrates on psychological or managerial aspects of whistleblowing while taking for granted this or that moral position or eschewing any normative commitment on the question. The purpose of this article is firstly to reemphasise the importance and complexity of the normative foundations of whistleblowing acts; and secondly, through a moral philosophical analysis of the component decisions that make up any act of whistleblowing, to contribute to a more balanced and less polarised treatment of the topic. It is argued that the polarisation of views on the topic is in part due to a failure to decompose the act of whistleblowing into a number of inevitable component moral decisions leading up to the act. It is furthermore argued on the basis of the analysis that it is impossible to state a priori as a matter of general principle that whistleblowing is always morally right (a good act) or morally wrong (a bad act). The article will close with a reflection on the degree to which the weighing up of good and bad in the act of whistleblowing differs sharply among cultures; and with a conjecture as to a possible relation to a people's history which may serve as a pointer to interesting future empirical research on the topic.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the three main kinds of managerial capabilities required of entrepreneurs are: information technology (IT) capabilities for internal issues, strategic capabilities for external issues, and BM-specific capabilities to manage the in/out interface.
Abstract: The full digitization of products and services coupled with advanced analytics impacts the dynamics of BMs and requires entrepreneurs to adapt their managerial capabilities to meet new challenges regarding customer needs, regulations, and privacy. Our research shows that the three main kinds of managerial capabilities required of entrepreneurs are: information technology (IT) capabilities for internal issues, strategic capabilities for external issues, and BM‐specific capabilities to manage the in/out interface. This research underlines the challenges of managing network effects, value appropriation, and sensitive information in the digital health industry.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored the configurations of innovativeness, proactiveness, risk-taking and ambidexterity for superior new product performance under different levels of market turbulence.
Abstract: Purpose: Entrepreneurial orientation (EO) is an exploratory orientation because its dimensions such as innovativeness, proactiveness and risk-taking are the essence of exploration that entails uncertain returns. While literature suggests firms might need to counterbalance and complement EO with another orientation for organisational success, research on this area remains limited. Drawing on organisational learning theory, the purpose of this article is to explore whether and how the EO dimensions and organisational ambidexterity complement each other to enhance new product performance. More specifically, the authors explore the configurations of innovativeness, proactiveness, risk-taking and ambidexterity for superior new product performance under different levels of market turbulence. Design/methodology/approach: Based on a configurational perspective, the authors applied fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) on a sample of 88 small and medium-sized firms from the UK. Using fsQCA allows the authors to uncover the potential complementary role between the EO dimensions and ambidexterity for superior new product performance. Findings: The results of this paper reveal three configurations that are sufficient to produce superior new product performance. The results suggest that the EO dimensions and ambidexterity can complement each other to enhance new product performance. Further, under the turbulent market environment, the EO dimensions are also sufficient to produce superior new product performance. Originality/value: By adopting a configurational perspective using fsQCA, the study provides a more holistic understanding of how the EO dimensions work together to influence new product performance. It also contributes to the literature by uncovering the complementary role of the EO dimensions and ambidexterity in shaping new product performance.
