TL;DR: A critical review on the alternative processes to the blast furnace, involving both solid and liquid state reduction, is presented in this paper, where the authors identify advantages and disadvantages of each type of processes as well as highlight the major challenges faced in order to compete with the traditional ironmaking route.
Abstract: A critical review on the alternative processes to the blast furnace, involving both solid and liquid State reduction is presented. Process comparison allows to identify advantages and disadvantages of each type of processes as well as to highlight the major challenges faced in order to compete with the traditional ironmaking route: the blast furnace, which today rules the production of iron units worldwide.

TL;DR: In this article, the quantum distribution function is derived to reach an accordance with quantum hydrodynamics and to conserve quantum properties of the system, which leads to correct local values of the fundamental physical quantities; and the local conservation laws of the microscopic quantum hydynamics can be obtained from such statistics by passing to mathematical expectatives.
Abstract: The quantum distribution function is derived to reach an accordance with quantum hydrodynamics and to conserve quantum properties of the system. This distribution function, when calculating statistical averages, leads to correct local values of the fundamental physical quantities; and the local conservation laws of the microscopic quantum hydrodynamics can be obtained from such statistics by passing to mathematical expectatives. The equation for the one-particle distribution function generates the many-particle distribution functions. Then, the BBGKY hierarchy equations are obtained. The one-particle statistical operator of a system of fermions in the local equilibrium at arbitrary temperatures is calculated. The dynamics of local hydrodynamic functions (chemical potential, hydrodynamic velocity, and temperature) completely determine the dynamics of the one-particle statistical operator. The quantum hydrodynamic equations for the proton-neutron system at low temperatures are obtained from the equation for one-particle distribution function. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 01 Nov 2016TL;DR: A novel conceptual design of variable reactor is proposed as shunt compensation device based on virtual air-gap principle and the results obtained confirm the use of virtual-gap reactor as a feasible alternative for reactive power compensation.
Abstract: Recently the issues of reactive power compensation and voltage control have become important in the operation of power systems, due to the constant growth of world demand as well as diversification of the connected load. Several solutions have been developed to provide greater flexibility to power systems during light load and maximum demand condition. These are two of the most critical conditions to keep the nodal voltage at nominal value. In this paper a novel conceptual design of variable reactor is proposed as shunt compensation device based on virtual air-gap principle. The suitability of the virtual-gap reactor as compensation device is verified by means of simulations and laboratory test performed in a small-scale prototype. The results obtained and discussed confirm the use of virtual-gap reactor as a feasible alternative for reactive power compensation.

TL;DR: In this paper, a unified formulation for solving the economic dispatch and reserve scheduling problems in electricity markets, in order to investigate the global efficiency of energy and reserve markets, is presented, which proves in a detailed way that these operated-simultaneously-markets provides more economical benefits for generation or distribution companies.
Abstract: Ancillary services costs were included within the energy price in the first electricity market models. In a decentralized electricity market, it is conceive to have a separate market for energy and each one of the Ancillary Services. However, when the problem is solved jointly it seems to be a better alternative to optimize resources. This paper presents a unified formulation for solving the economic dispatch and reserve scheduling problems in electricity markets, in order to investigate the global efficiency of energy and reserve markets. The formulation allows generation and distribution companies to offer in the market reserve services. Concluding remarks are offered about the results obtained, which proves in a detailed way that these operated-simultaneously-markets provides more economical benefits for generation or distribution companies.
