22 Dec 2015TL;DR: In this paper, a thermal printer includes a rotatable printhead platen and a thermal printhead mounted in cooperative association with the platen, where the printhead is operated to thermally create an image directly on the print media.
Abstract: A thermal printer includes a rotatable printhead platen and a thermal printhead mounted in cooperative association with the printhead platen. The printhead has an upstream side and a downstream side. A continuous web of thermal print media passes between the printhead platen and the printhead where the thermal printhead is operated to thermally create an image directly on the print media. A print media drive mechanism draws the print media past the printhead in a downstream direction. A heating device is positioned upstream of the printhead and is operable for pre-heating the print media to a predetermined temperature prior to printing.

11 Mar 1996TL;DR: In this article, a handheld printer is used to move across a target object to print while moving in a desired printing field, and the printer allows image rotation under control of a four-position switch and scaling of the image using distance and printline based scaling.
Abstract: A handheld printer is movable across a target object to print while moving in a desired printing field. The printer has a position detector and a microprocessor controller for detecting the position of a printing member and activating the printing member at a plurality of successive printing locations. The printer may use thermal or inkjet printing and has user feedback and input. A mechanical position detector enables the printer to be used without a mechanical paper drive mechanism. The printer allows image rotation under control of a four-position switch and scaling of the image using distance and printline based scaling. The printer may be controlled by an external controller through a cable or a remote signal source. An alternative embodiment of the printer uses a vacuum-type arrangement to attract and hold the printer to the surface being printed. The printer may be line or battery-powered. The printer scales the image according to a user-selected scaling factor or in response to a measured printing field.

07 Oct 2015TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for printing an indicia on a graphic medium is described, where a print mechanism is operable for marking multiple printouts of the indicia at a target position on the graphic medium, and for outputting a printed media product.
Abstract: A system and method for printing an indicia on a graphic medium is described. A print mechanism is operable for marking multiple printouts of the indicia at a target position on the graphic medium, and for outputting a printed media product. The printed media product has a first output group of the marked printouts, and continuous with the output of the first group of printouts, at least one output group of the printouts marked subsequent to the first output group. A controller is operable for adjusting the print mechanism in response to an input related to an evaluation of the printouts marked on the first output group. The adjustment conforms a position at which the printouts are marked in the at least one subsequent output group spatially to the target position.

13 Oct 2015TL;DR: A print media holder device has first and second grip members Permanent magnets are attached to the first and Second grip members as discussed by the authors, where when the electromagnet is selectively energized, the permanent magnets attached by the first grip members are repelled in a manner that increases the outer dimension of the print holder to grip a media core
Abstract: A print media holder device has first and second grip members Permanent magnets are attached to the first and second grip members An electromagnet is disposed between the first and second grip members, where when the electromagnet is selectively energized the permanent magnets attached to the first and second grip members are repelled in a manner that increases the outer dimension of the print media holder device to grip a media core

04 Nov 2015TL;DR: In this article, a printer that includes a medium dispenser for transporting print medium along a transport pathway to a print station which receives the print medium is described, and the results of the scan may be communicated to a controller to facilitate proper print settings.
Abstract: A printer that includes systems for detecting transparent medium may include a medium dispenser for transporting print medium along a transport pathway to a print station which receives the print medium. Transmitters and receivers may be positioned on opposite sides of the transport pathway for scanning the print medium with a light beam. The sensor arrangement may be configured to detect deflection of the light beam when a transparent print medium is transported on the transport pathway between the transmitter and the receiver. The results of the scan may be communicated to a controller to facilitate proper print settings.
