TL;DR: In the past decade, the governance of immigrant integration has gained increasing attention in the policy agenda in Europe, OECD countries and beyond (Desiderio and Weinar 2014) The scope of actions and the range of actors involved have constantly broadened to engage not only governments but also civil society as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: In the past decade the governance of immigrant integration – defined as the set of actors, structures, mechanisms and processes of cooperation that make up the framework for integration policies and practices – has gained increasing attention in the policy agenda in Europe, OECD countries and beyond (Desiderio and Weinar 2014) The scope of actions and the range of actors involved have constantly broadened to engage not only governments – at various levels and across different portfolios – but also civil society Moreover, countries of origin have started to conceive of supporting integration as part of a broader diaspora engagement strategy – as a means of strengthening ties with the diaspora abroad and of putting its members in a position to contribute to the origin country These policies thus support, at least in their stated goals, a functional integration (not necessarily full identification) of emigrants at destination, ie helping them function as productive members of the host societies They are largely formulated by the institutions dedicated to diaspora engagement and are generally implemented with the involvement of the ministry of foreign affairs, consular networks and other offices set in receiving countries We are now only starting to understand this integration/diaspora nexus (Delano and Gamlen 2014; Delano 2009) The need to understand their role as creating obstacles or support for integration has become crucial to international cooperation on migration

TL;DR: It is found that parental arrest often leads to loss of earnings, dependence on public assistance and charity, and increased family hardship, and in addition, the resulting separation results in significant trauma and stress for both children and parents.
Abstract: The US conducted almost 400,000 deportations during each of the past 4 years. The increasing numbers of deportations—of both unauthorized immigrants and legal immigrants who have committed certain crimes—are also netting large numbers of parents. An estimated 100,000 parents with US-born citizen children were deported between 1998 and 2008, but this figure is likely an underestimate, as many arrested immigrants do not report children living in the US. Recent estimates place the total unauthorized US population at between 11 and 12 million, and the population of US children with unauthorized parents at more than 5 million. About 80 % of these children are believed to be US-born citizens. This significant number of children, mostly US citizens, is at risk for parental deportation under current US immigration enforcement practices.

TL;DR: In the last few years, the importance of cooperating on issues of migration has become ever more apparent as discussed by the authors, and governments in Europe and North America have invested significant resources and political capital in their relationships with key countries of origin and transit.
Abstract: In the last few years, the importance of cooperating on issues of migration has become ever more apparent. The 2015–16 migration crisis in Europe and successive surges in irregular migration at the US–Mexico border since 2014 have illustrated the limitations of acting unilaterally and demonstrated the role that cooperation can play in managing migration more effectively. As a result, governments in Europe and North America have invested significant resources and political capital in their relationships with key countries of origin and transit. But an initial review suggests that while recent partnerships on migration are distinguished by their scope and ambition, they raise similar questions to their predecessors: namely, how effective they are in achieving their goals and whether they constitute true ‘partnerships’ in the proper sense of the term.
