Abstract: An amorphous Si/SiC heterojunction color-sensitive phototransistor was successfully fabricated by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. The structure is glass/ITO/a-Si(n+-i)/a-SiC(p+-i-n+)/Al. The device is a bulk barrier transistor with wide-bandgap amorphous SiC emitter and base. The phototransistor revealed a very high optical gain of 40 and a response speed of 10 µs at an input light power of 5 µW and a collector current of 0.12 mA at a voltage of 14 V. The peak response occurs at 610 nm under 1-V bias and changes to 420 and 540 nm under 7- and 13-V biases, respectively.

TL;DR: In this article, a finite element method was used to analyze the dynamic responses of a flat plate subjected to various moving loads, including eccentricity, acceleration and initial velocity of the moving load, and the effect of span length.
Abstract: SUMMARY The object of this paper is to analyse by the finite element method the dynamic responses of a flat plate subjected to various moving loads. First of all the actual continuous flat plate was replaced by a discrete system composed of isoparametric rectangular plate elements. And then the elementary and overall stiffness and mass matrices were determined and the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the flat plate were solved. Next, the Newmark direct integration method was used to find the dynamic responses of the flat plate. The effects of eccentricity, acceleration and initial velocity of the moving load, and the effect of span length were the key points of study. The dynamic behaviour of a multi-span flat plate supported by the beam members of rigid plane frames and subjected to the action of a series of moving loads (in identical or opposite directions) were also investigated.

Abstract: Thermal buckling of laminated composite plates subjected to a temperature change is studied. The displacement equations of equilibrium are used and Galerkin's method is employed to determine the critical buckling temperature. Clamped and simply supported boundary conditions are both considered. The effects of various parameters on the thermal buckling are examined.

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of Prandtl number and surface mass transfer on a steady, laminar, free convective flow over a sphere with nonuniform surface temperature or heat flux was studied.
Abstract: The effect of mass transfer on free convection from a vertical plate has been studied by Eichhorn (1960), Sparrow and Cess (1961), Merkin (1972), and Parikh (1974). Recently, Merkin (1975) gave an asymptotic series solution for two-dimensional bodies. Minkowycz and Sparrow (1979) studied a vertical cylinder in a natural convective flow. According to their conclusions, the heat transfer rate increases with suction and decreases with blowing. The present note is concerned with the study of the influence of Prandtl number and surface mass transfer on a steady, laminar, free convective flow over a sphere with nonuniform surface temperature or heat flux.

TL;DR: A catalytically active, human microplasmin was produced by incubation of [Lys]plAsmin in buffer at pH 11.0 for up to 12 hr and purified by affinity chromatography that used lysine-Sepharose and soybean trypsin inhibitor-SepHarose columns.
Abstract: A catalytically active, human microplasmin was produced by incubation of [Lys]plasmin in buffer at pH 11.0 for up to 12 hr. The microplasmin was purified by affinity chromatography that used lysine-Sepharose and soybean trypsin inhibitor-Sepharose columns. It is homogeneous and pure by electrophoretic analysis in NaDodSO4/polyacrylamide gels and by gel filtration on a Superose 12 column. The molecular weight of the microplasmin determined by NaDodSO4 gel electrophoresis is 29,000 and 26,500 under reducing condition, whereas the molecular weight of native plasmin is 76,500. Microplasmin consists mainly of the ligh (B) chain of native human plasmin and possesses one active site per protein molecule when titrated with p-nitrophenyl p'-guanidinobenzoate. Microplasmin hydrolyzes the peptide substrate NH2-D-Val-Leu-Lys-p-nitroanilide (S-2251) with a Km of 0.361 +/- 0.017 mM and a kcat of 40.3 +/- 3.3 s-1 at pH 7.4 and 37 degrees C, whereas native plasmin has a Km of 0.355 +/- 0.002 mM and a kcat of 27.9 +/- 0.3 s-1 under the same conditions.

TL;DR: The proposed scheme for the formation of microplasmin involves autolysis at specific peptide bonds and scrambling of especially sensitive disulfide bonds in alkaline solution.
Abstract: The structure of human microplasmin, prepared from plasmin in alkaline solution, has been studied. Microplasmin consists of two polypeptide chains connected by disulfide bonds. One polypeptide is the B chain of plasmin consisting of 230 amino acids, and the other peptide is the COOH-terminal portion of the A chain of plasmin consisting of 31 amino acid residues. Microplasmin has a molecular weight of 28,635, calculated from its primary sequence. It is slightly more positively charged than plasminogen and is a more hydrophobic molecule. The proposed scheme for the formation of microplasmin involves autolysis at specific peptide bonds and scrambling of especially sensitive disulfide bonds in alkaline solution.

TL;DR: In this article, the problem of natural convection of a non-Newtonian power-law fluid about a horizontal impermeable surface in the porous medium is considered, where the plate is assumed with a nonuniform heat flux distribution.
Abstract: The problem of natural convection of a non-Newtonian power-law fluid about a horizontal impermeable surface in the porous medium is considered, where the plate is assumed with a nonuniform heat flux distribution. The present study is based on the boundary layer approximation and only suitable for a high Rayleigh number. Similarity solutions are obtained by using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method and the Nachtsheim-Swigert iteration scheme. The effects of the nonuniform wall heat flux q w (x) and the new power-law index n on the heat transfer characteristics are discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors combined the combined use of the Laplace transform and the finite element method to solve the problem of time-dependent heat flow systems and found that the present method is stable and convergent to the exact solution.
Abstract: The powerful method of analysis, involving the combined use of the Laplace transform and the finite element method, is applicable to the problem of time-dependent heat flow systems. The present method removes the time terms using the Laplace transform and then solves the associated equation with the finite element method. The associated temperature is inverted by the method of Honig and Hirdes. The present results are compared in tables with the corresponding exact solutions. It is found that the present method is stable and convergent to the exact solution. There exists no time step, thus the present method is a useful tool in solving long-time problems.

TL;DR: Results indicate that activation of opiate receptors in the brain produced pain relief, hypothermia (due to cutaneous vasodilation and sweating), and increased blood levels of prolactin, growth hormone and glucose in patients with cancer pain.
Abstract: The effects of analgesic, thermoregulatory and endocrine functions of administering morphine sulphate (0.3mg) into the lateral cerebral ventricle via an Ommaya catheter were assessed in eight patients with cancer pain. Satisfactory control of intractable pain was obtained in these patients, without any change in other sensory modalities. The delay in the onset of pain relief and the duration of analgesia ranged, respectively, from 20 to 40 min and from 12 to 16 h after drug injection. In addition, intraventricular administration of morphine caused a reduction in rectal temperature in these patients at an ambient temperature of 24°C. The hypothermia in response to the injection of morphine was due to cutaneous vasodilation and sweating. There was no change in metabolism or in respiratory evaporative heat loss after morphine injection. Further, 10 to 20 min after intraventricular administration of morphine, the blood levels of prolactin, growth hormone and glucose were elevated in these patients. The changes in temperature and endocrine levels lasted for 1–3 h. In addition to the pain relief, these side-effects of morphine treatment were short-lasting and disappeared as the morphine treatment continued. The results indicate that activation of opiate receptors in the brain produced pain relief, hypothermia (due to cutaneous vasodilation and sweating), and increased blood levels of prolactin, growth hormone and glucose in patients with cancer pain.

TL;DR: A pseudobinary phase diagram of the Nd- (Fe14,B) system and liquidus isotherms in the primary field of the Fe-Nd-B ternary system were determined by DTA, XRD, metallography and EDX techniques as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A pseudobinary phase diagram of the Nd- (Fe14,B) system and liquidus isotherms in the Nd 2 Fe 14 B(T 1 ) primary field of the Fe-Nd-B ternary system were determined by DTA, XRD, metallography and EDX techniques. The peritectic region for the appearence of T 1 phase is in the range of 3 % to 40 % Nd for the pseudobinary system, and hence part of the liquidus projection in the Fe-Nd-B ternary system is modified. It was found that there exists a homogeneity range for Nd in T 1 phase above 1000°C. It was determined to be 0.6, 1.0 and 1.5 at% Nd at 1000°C, 1090°C and 1145°C, respectively. A composition triangle of Fe-T 1 -T 2 (Nd 1.1 Fe 4 B 4 ) instead of Fe-T 1 -Fe 2 B at 1090°C was identified.

TL;DR: The continuous cooling transformation diagram for low-carbon low-alloy steel containing 0.05% C, 1.99% Mn, 0.31% Mo and 0.06% Nb was constructed by dilatometry and metallography.
Abstract: The continuous cooling transformation diagram for low-carbon low-alloy steel containing 0.05% C, 1.99% Mn, 0.31% Mo and 0.06% Nb was constructed by dilatometry and metallography. The intermediate transformation between martensite and polygonal ferrite involves two typical stages: the formation of ferrite matrix and the formation of microphases. Four intermediate transformation products obtained from various cooling rates and designated B1, B2, A1 and A2, were studied. The B1 and B2 structures are composed of pockets of parallel ferrite laths and interlath microphases, which are films of retained austenite in B, and are fragments of retained austenite or martensite or martensite-retained austenite (M-A) constituents in B2. The B1 structure is further characterized by the appearance of martensite particles inside the ferrite laths. The A1 structure is comprised of the randomly arranged ferrite groups. Each group contains several short ferrite laths in the same crystallographic orientation and granular M-A constituents or martensite located at the rim of ferrite laths or groups. The A2 structure is morphologically analogous to Widmanstatten ferrite. The formation mechanisms of these products are also discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a widely convergent algorithm for finding a limit cycle of systems with multiple nonlinearities is presented, and a systematic approach is proposed for constructing the limit cycle loci on the parameter planes.
Abstract: This note presents a widely convergent algorithm for finding a limit cycle of systems with multiple nonlinearities. A systematic approach is proposed for constructing the limit cycle loci on the parameter planes. The merits of this approach lie in its simplicity, generality, and ability to provide deeper insight into parameter influences on the limit cycle. Besides, stability of the limit cycle can be predicted with a minimum amount of computations.
