01 Jan 2000TL;DR: In this article, the authors found that most residents of Syktyvkar and Kirov focused on day-to-day survival and did not actively participate in Russia's transition politics.
Abstract: So far the analysis could well leave the impression that most residents of Syktyvkar and Kirov focused on day-to-day survival and did not actively participate in Russia’s transition politics. Truthfully with the partial exception of voting, respondents did not participate extensively, as they did not perceive the political processes as open to them. In this way, the people model the behavioral domain: their strategy of action is to avoid political participation and their behavioral cue is the perception that there is no access. As we have just seen, people were not paying attention to politics, let alone participating in them.

TL;DR: The case, Kasky v. Nike as discussed by the authors, stems from 1995 accusations that athletic footwear and apparel manufacturer Nike exploited and abused employees in Asian sweatshops, and through advertising and public relations efforts, Nike denied the claims.
Abstract: While attention has focused on the U. S. Supreme Court protecting corporate political speech, the Court has left untouched a California Supreme Court ruling of significance to marketers in their efforts to use advertising and public relations to offset what they view as unfair criticism. The case, Kasky v. Nike, stems from 1995 accusations that athletic footwear and apparel manufacturer Nike exploited and abused employees in Asian sweatshops. Through advertising and public relations efforts, Nike denied the claims. In 1998, Californian Mark Kasky sued, claiming Nike's denials violated laws regarding unfair competition and false advertising and, because the denials were "commercial speech," they were not protected by the First Amendment. California Superior Court dismissed the case and Kasky also lost in the state Court of Appeal, but won at the California Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court ultimately declined to hear an appeal from Nike. As a result, companies doing business in California, including online, risk being charged with false advertising when attempting to defend themselves against accusations of unfair, illegal, or unethical corporate practices.

TL;DR: It is reported that 42% of patients presenting with classic, unilateral conjunctivitis were misdiagnosed as Ad-Cs using viral culture.
Abstract: There is no FDA-approved treatment for adenoviral conjunctivitis (Ad-Cs). Ad-Cs is a prevalent and highly contagious eye infection that affects 6 million people each year in the United States.1 Conjunctivitis can be caused by bacteria, viruses, allergens and toxin exposure, which makes the diagnosis of Ad-Cs especially challenging. Cheung reported that 42% of patients presenting with classic, unilateral conjunctivitis were misdiagnosed as Ad-Cs using viral culture.2

TL;DR: In this article, the existence of unexposed Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous Priiskatel'skii and Pautovaya granitoid massifs in the core of the Pautsch Horst and the Late-Cretaceous Orotukan-Sulukhachan Massif is investigated.
Abstract: This paper considers the problems of the existence of unexposed Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous Priiskatel’skii and Pautovaya granitoid massifs in the core of the Pautovaya Horst and the Late Cretaceous Orotukan-Sulukhachan Massif, which is located at depths of <2 km and projected to the surface as the Verkhnii Orotukan, Sulukhachan, and Solnechnyi granite massifs. The formation of palingenetic-anatectic granitoid magma and its migration to the surface occurred under conditions of general basification of the crust in the Late Mesozoic and led to the formation of the Pautovaya Horst. Granitization of near-surface parts of the crust was accompanied by basification at depths of 8–15 km, where granitoid magma originated in magmatic chambers. The contact-metamorphosed sedimentary cap of the uneroded granitoid core of the Pautovaya Horst is promising for tin-rare metal ore deposits and occurrences and unpromising for gold mineralization.
