TL;DR: An overview of the research conducted on symbiotic organisms search algorithms from inception to the time of writing is provided, in the form of details of various application scenarios with variants and hybrid implementations, and suggestions for future research directions.
Abstract: The symbiotic organisms search algorithm is a very promising recent metaheuristic algorithm. It has received a plethora of attention from all areas of numerical optimization research, as well as engineering design practices. it has since undergone several modifications, either in the form of hybridization or as some other improved variants of the original algorithm. However, despite all the remarkable achievements and rapidly expanding body of literature regarding the symbiotic organisms search algorithm within its short appearance in the field of swarm intelligence optimization techniques, there has been no collective and comprehensive study on the success of the various implementations of this algorithm. As a way forward, this paper provides an overview of the research conducted on symbiotic organisms search algorithms from inception to the time of writing, in the form of details of various application scenarios with variants and hybrid implementations, and suggestions for future research directions.

TL;DR: The results confirmed that the proposed adaptive mutualism phase and modified parasitism phase with a normal line method as an archiving technique provide superior and competitive results than the former obtained results.
Abstract: Multiple objective structural optimization is a challenging problem in which suitable optimization methods are needed to find optimal solutions. Therefore, to answer such problems effectively, a multi-objective modified adaptive symbiotic organisms search (MOMASOS) with two modified phases is planned along with a normal line method as an archiving technique for designing of structures. The proposed algorithm consists of two separate improved phases including adaptive mutualism and modified parasitism phases. The probabilistic nature of mutualism phase of MOSOS lets design variables to have higher exploration and higher exploitation simultaneously. As search advances, a stability between the global search and a local search has a significant effect on the solutions. Therefore, an adaptive mutualism phase is added to the offer MOASOS. Also, the parasitism phase of MOSOS offers over exploration which is a major issue of this phase. The over exploration results in higher computational cost since the majority of the new solutions gets rejected due to inferior objective functional values. In consideration of this issue, the parasitism phase is upgraded to a modified parasitism phase to increase the possibility of getting improved solutions. In addition, the proposed changes are comparatively simple and do not need an extra parameter setting for MOSOS. For the truss problems, mass minimization and maximization of nodal deflection are considered as objective functions, elemental stresses are considered as behavior constraints and (discrete) elemental sections are considered as side constraints. Five truss optimization problems validate the applicability of the considered meta-heuristics to solve complex engineering. Also, four constrained benchmark engineering design problems are solved to demonstrate the effectiveness of MOMASOS. The results confirmed that the proposed adaptive mutualism phase and modified parasitism phase with a normal line method as an archiving technique provide superior and competitive results than the former obtained results.

TL;DR: In this article, the intention of whistleblowing depends on ethical awareness (EAW) and ethical judgment (EJW) as well as there is a mediation-moderation due to emotion (EMT) and perceived moral intensity (PMI) of auditors.
Abstract: This study aims to examine the ethical decision-making (EDM) model proposed by Schwartz (J Bus Ethics, 2015. doi:10.1007/s10551-015-2886-8), where we consider the factors of nonrationality and aspects that affect ethical judgments of auditors to make the decision to blow the whistle. In this chapter, we argue that the intention of whistleblowing depends on ethical awareness (EAW) and ethical judgment (EJW) as well as there is a mediation-moderation due to emotion (EMT) and perceived moral intensity (PMI) of auditors. Data was collected using an online survey with 162 external auditors who worked in audit firms in Indonesia as well as 173 internal auditors working in the manufacturing and financial services. The result of multigroup analysis shows that emotion (EMT) can mediate the relationship between EAW and EJW. The nature of this relationship is more complex, so we then tested it by adding moderating variables using consistent partial least squares (PLSc) approach. We found that EMT and PMI can improve the relationship between ethical judgments and whistleblowing intentions. These findings indicate that internal auditors are more likely to blow the whistle than external auditors, and reporting wrongdoing internally and anonymously is the preferred way of professional accountants to blow the whistle in Indonesia.

TL;DR: The success of SOS–LSSVR in building an accurate prediction model suggests that the proposed self-optimized prediction framework has found an underlying pattern in the current database and thus can potentially be implemented in various disciplines.
Abstract: The prediction of asphalt performance can be very important in terms of increasing service life and performance while saving energy and money. In this study, a new hybrid artificial intelligence (AI) system, SOS–LSSVR, has been proposed to predict the permanent deformation potential of asphalt pavement mixtures. SOS–LSSVR utilizes the symbiotic organisms search (SOS) and the least squares support vector regression (LSSVR), which are seen as a complementary system. The prediction model can be established from all input and output data pairs for LSSVR, while SOS optimizes the system’s tuning parameters. To avoid sampling bias and to partition the dataset into testing and training, a cross-validation technique was chosen. The results can be compared to those of previous studies and other predictive methods. Through the use of four error indicators, SOS–LSSVR accuracy was verified in predicting the permanent deformation behavior of an asphalt mixture. The present study demonstrates that the proposed AI system is a valuable decision-making tool for road designers. Additionally, the success of SOS–LSSVR in building an accurate prediction model suggests that the proposed self-optimized prediction framework has found an underlying pattern in the current database and thus can potentially be implemented in various disciplines.

TL;DR: The successful application of OSVM-AEW is demonstrated as an efficient tool for helping structural engineers in the RC deep beams design process.
Abstract: This study presents a novel artificial intelligence (AI) technique based on two support vector machine (SVM) models and symbiotic organisms search (SOS) algorithm, called “optimized support vector machines with adaptive ensemble weighting” (OSVM-AEW), to predict the shear capacity of reinforced-concrete (RC) deep beams. This ensemble learning-based system combines two supervised learning models—the support vector machine (SVM) and least-squares support vector machine (LS-SVM)—with the SOS optimization algorithm as the optimizer. In OSVM-AEW, SOS is integrated to simultaneously select the optimal parameters of SVM and LS-SVM, and control the coordination process of the learning outputs. Experimental results show that OSVM-AEW achieves the greatest evaluation criteria for coefficient of correlation (0.9620), coefficient of determination (0.9254), mean absolute error (0.3854 MPa), mean absolute percentage error (7.68%), and root-mean-squared error (0.5265 MPa). This paper demonstrates the successful application of OSVM-AEW as an efficient tool for helping structural engineers in the RC deep beams design process.

Abstract: Intellectual capital (IC) has been considered as a valuable asset in the wealth creation and sustainability of the company; however, limited and mixed results are found on its impact on firm financial performance and market value (MV). This paper aims to investigate the influence of IC toward MV and financial performance of publicly listed firms in Indonesia. In addition, this research also presents the comparison of the high and low level of knowledge industries regarding IC performance.,A balanced panel data of 127 firms from 12 industries in Indonesia during 2010 until 2017 was evaluated using dynamic panel regression and administering a well-developed Blundell–Bond instrument (dynamic panel data estimator) to account for endogeneity problem.,The results of this study showed that IC had a significant and positive impact on firm performance. Specifically, structural capital efficiency and capital employed (CE) efficiency have been contributed to the value creation of the company, after controlling for firm size and type of industry. Different to the theoretical expectation, this research found no significant relationship between IC and MV of the firm. However, when the sample was clustered into high-level and low-level knowledge industry, CE displayed positive and significant relationship in high-level industry.,This research contributes to IC research by having a larger sample of Indonesian firms from all industries except banks and financial institutions and using Modified Value Added Intellectual Capital measurement model. To address the endogeneity problem, dynamic panel regression using system generalized method of moment was applied.

TL;DR: This paper proposes to identify the difference between the six essentials of human voice emotion, which will be generated using prosodic and spectral features extraction by utilizing Deep Neural Networks (DNNs).
Abstract: It is well known that human voice at the perceptual level consists of multimodality information. Therefore, a modality can be shared via neural emotion network through the independent stimuli processes. The expression and identification of emotions are significant steps for the human communication process. This process is biologically adaptive in a continuous manner, and for this reason, human voice identification becomes useful for classifying and identifying an effective specific characteristic between them. In this paper, we propose to identify the difference between the six essentials of human voice emotion. They will be generated using prosodic and spectral features extraction by utilizing Deep Neural Networks (DNNs). The result of our experiment has obtained accuracy as much as 78.83%. It presupposed that the higher intensity of emotions found in the sound sample would automatically trigger the level of accuracy as same as a higher one. Moreover, gender identification was also carried out along with the approximate accuracy at 90%. Nevertheless, from the learning process with the composition of 80:20, the training-testing data has obtained an exact accurate result by 100%.

TL;DR: This research focuses on applying the scalability in Kubernetes and evaluating its performance on overcoming the increasing number of concurrent users accessing academic data.
Abstract: An enterprise that has implemented virtualization can consolidate multiple servers into fewer host servers and get the benefits of reduced space, power, and administrative requirements. Sharing their hosts’ operating system resources, containerization significantly reduces workloads, and is known as a lightweight virtualization. Kubernetes is commonly used to automatically deploy and scale application containers. The scalability of these application containers can be applied to Kubernetes with several supporting parameters. It is expected that the exploitation of scalability will improve performance and server response time to users without reducing server utility capabilities. This research focuses on applying the scalability in Kubernetes and evaluating its performance on overcoming the increasing number of concurrent users accessing academic data. This research employed 3 computers: one computer as the master node and two others as worker nodes. Simulations are performed by an application that generates multiple user behaviors accessing various microservice URLs. Two scenarios were designed to evaluate the CPU load on single and multiple servers. On multiple servers, the server scalability was enabled to serve the user requests. Implementation of scalability to the containers (on multiple servers) reduces the CPU usage pod due to the distribution of loads to containers that are scattered in many workers. Besides CPU load, this research also measured the server's response time in responding user requests. Response time on multiple servers takes longer time than that on single server due to the overhead delay of scaling containers.

TL;DR: Interestingly, positive effects on stature for exposed less‐religious Muslim children that peak in early adolescence (10–14 years of age) and negative effects for exposed non‐Muslim children that occur only in early childhood (0–4 years ofAge) are found and the discussion of health and socioeconomic factors are nuance to explain these surprising results.
Abstract: Many pregnant Muslim women fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. A number of studies have reported negative life outcomes in adulthood for children who were prenatally exposed to Ramadan. However, other studies document minimal to no impact on neonatal indicators. Using data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey consisting of 45,246 observations of 21,723 children born to 9771 mothers, we contribute to the current discussion on prenatal exposure to Ramadan by examining the effects on stature (height-for-age Z-scores, weight-for-age Z-scores, and body-mass-index-for-age Z-scores: HAZ, WAZ, and BAZ, respectively) from early childhood to late adolescence (0-19 years of age). We introduce an objective mother's religiosity indicator to improve the intention-to-treat estimations. Children were classified into three groups based on their mother's religion-religiosity: religious Muslims, less-religious Muslims, and non-Muslims. Using cluster-robust mother fixed-effects, we found negative effects on stature for children born to religious Muslim mothers. The effects were age-dependent and timing-sensitive. For example, children born to religious Muslim mothers were shorter in late adolescence (15-19 years of age) compared to their unexposed siblings if they were prenatally exposed in the first trimester of pregnancy (HAZ difference = -0.105 SD; p-val. <0.05). Interestingly, we found positive effects on stature for exposed less-religious Muslim children that peak in early adolescence (10-14 years of age) and negative effects on stature for exposed non-Muslim children that occur only in early childhood (0-4 years of age). We nuance our discussion of health and socioeconomic factors to explain these surprising results.

TL;DR: The results validate the ability of MSOS-SVM to model the pavement rutting behavior of asphalt mixtures to a relatively high level of accuracy as measured using four error indicators.
Abstract: The present study proposes a new self-tuning least squares support vector machine, called MSOS-SVM, for modeling the pavement rutting behavior of asphalt mixtures. MSOS-SVM combines the least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM), the symbiotic organisms search (SOS), and chaotic maps. In this system, the LS-SVM is used to establish the relationship model between the flow number obtained from laboratory tests and the parameters specified in the asphalt mix design. SOS is used to find the best LS-SVM tuning parameters. Meanwhile, chaotic system is used to enhance the exploration and exploitation process of SOS. A total of 118 historical cases were used to establish the intelligence-prediction model. The results validate the ability of MSOS-SVM to model the pavement rutting behavior of asphalt mixtures to a relatively high level of accuracy as measured using four error indicators. The present study demonstrates that the proposed computational intelligence system is a highly beneficial decision-making tool for road designers and engineers.

Abstract: In some developing countries such as Indonesia, there is a lack of regulatory controls in social responsibility performance and disclosure. Therefore, this paper is conducted to study the level of social responsibility performance and disclosure, as well as to investigate the relationship of environmental performance with a financial outcome, using environmental disclosure as the mediation variable. A firm's environmental performance is measured by PROPER score and the environmental disclosure with GRI index. Results show that firms' financial outcome is significantly affected by their environmental action (PROPER score and GRI Index). However, the findings also indicate that both environmental disclosure and profitability together are able to mediate the relationship between environmental performances and firms. The findings suggest that, in general, the majority of firms need to follow the GRI guidelines for reporting environmental information; therefore the investors should consider this information when making investment decisions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors outline the strategies to improve the recycling perfomance for Al beverage cans, i.e. by adding drossing flux, applying improved melting strategy, and cans decoating prior to melting.
Abstract: Millions of canned drinks are consumed everyday globally and their wastes create an enviromental issue. Fortunately, the cans are made from aluminium (Al) so that it can be recycled. There are two main keypoints existing during the recycling process of Al cans, i.e. the aluminium loss or low Al-yield and low recycling yield. This work outlines the strategies to improve the recycling perfomance for Al beverage cans, i.e. by adding drossing flux, applying improved melting strategy, and cans decoating prior to melting. Drossing flux was added to assist the detachment of Al from the slag. Another improved melting strategy was worked out by decreasing exposure time cans to the furnace atmosphere during melting. All those above strategies result in an increase of recycle yield in a range of 4 % to 5 %.
