TL;DR: The source of the 8 October 2005 earthquake of M 7.6 was the northwest-striking Balakot-Bagh (B-B) fault, which had been mapped by the Geological Survey of Pakistan prior to the earthquake but had not been recognized as active except for a 16-km section near Muzaffarabad as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The source of the 8 October 2005 earthquake of M 7.6 was the northwest-striking Balakot–Bagh (B–B) fault, which had been mapped by the Geological Survey of Pakistan prior to the earthquake but had not been recognized as active except for a 16-km section near Muzaffarabad. The fault follows the Indus–Kohistan Seismic Zone (IKSZ); both cut across and locally offset the Hazara–Kashmir Syntaxis defined by the Main Boundary and Panjal thrusts. The fault has no expression in facies of the Miocene–Pleistocene Siwalik Group but does offset late Pleistocene terrace surfaces in Pakistan-administered Jammu-Kashmir. Two en-echelon anticlines near Muzaffarabad and Balakot expose Precambrian Muzaffarabad Limestone and are cut by the B–B fault on their southwest sides, suggesting that folding and exposure of Precambrian rocks by erosion accompanied Quaternary displacement along the fault. The B–B fault has reverse separation, northeast side up; uplift of the northeast side accompanied displacement, producing higher topography and steeper stream gradients northeast of the fault. No surface expression of the B–B fault has been found northwest of the syntaxis, although the IKSZ and steeper stream gradients continue at least as far as the Indus River, the site of the Pattan earthquake of M 6.2 in 1974. To the southeast, northwest-striking faults were mapped by the Geological Survey of Pakistan. One of these faults, the Riasi thrust, cuts across the southwest flank of an anticline exposing Precambrian limestone. Farther southeast, in Indian-administered territory, Holocene activity on the Riasi thrust has been described. In the Kangra reentrant still farther southeast, active faulting may follow the Soan thrust, along which Holocene and Pleistocene offsets have been described. The Soan thrust, rather than the south flank of the Janauri anticline, may represent the surface projection of the 1905 Kangra earthquake of M 7.8.

TL;DR: In this article, a search for the associated production of a Higgs boson with a top quark pair in the all-jet final state was presented, where events containing seven or more jets were selected from a sample of proton-proton collisions at the LHC in 2016, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1.
Abstract: A search is presented for the associated production of a Higgs boson with a top quark pair in the all-jet final state. Events containing seven or more jets are selected from a sample of proton-proton collisions at $$ \sqrt{s}=13 $$ TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. To separate the $$ \mathrm{t}\overline{\mathrm{t}}\mathrm{H} $$ signal from the irreducible $$ \mathrm{t}\overline{\mathrm{t}}+\mathrm{b}\overline{\mathrm{b}} $$ background, the analysis assigns leading order matrix element signal and background probability densities to each event. A likelihood-ratio statistic based on these probability densities is used to extract the signal. The results are provided in terms of an observed ttH signal strength relative to the standard model production cross section μ = σ/σSM, assuming a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV. The best fit value is $$ \widehat{\mu}=0.9\pm 0.7\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 1.3\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)=0.9\pm 1.5\left(\mathrm{tot}\right) $$ , and the observed and expected upper limits are, respectively, μ < 3.8 and < 3.1 at 95% confidence levels.

TL;DR: Assessing the structure of the synthesized NPs for protective effect against harmful bacterial activity and the presence of the major elements in the sample was determined through energy dispersive X‐ray analysis characterization.
Abstract: In this decade, the use of nano particles (NPs) against bacterial growth is increasing day by day due to remarkable alternative properties compared to molecular antibiotics. Thus, the use of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) has proven one of the most important transition metals oxide-based remedy in nanotechnological advances and biological applications due to enriched biocompatibility of iron. In this study synthesis of IONPs was carried out via co-precipitation method. The crystallographic morphology of the synthesized particles was studied via X-ray diffraction which revealed cubic structure of the particles, whereas, the spinal shaped morphology of the prepared NPs was confirmed from scanning electron microscopy. Likewise, the presence of the major elements in the sample was determined through energy dispersive X-ray analysis characterization. Bactericidal effect of the NPs was assessed at pre-defined concentrations (50 and 100 μg/ml) against Gram +ve bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Gram -ve bacteria Shigella dysentry and Escherichia coli. Bacterial strains, which demonstrate the potential of NPs. The purpose of this study was assessing the structure of the synthesized NPs for protective effect against harmful bacterial activity.

TL;DR: A new hybrid EWMA (HEWMA) control chart is proposed by mixing two EWMA control charts, which detects smaller shifts substantially quicker than the classical CUSUM, classical EWMA and mixed EWMA–CUSUM control charts.
Abstract: Cumulative sum (CUSUM) and exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts are commonly used for monitoring the process mean. In this paper, a new hybrid EWMA (HEWMA) control chart is proposed by mixing two EWMA control charts. An interesting feature of the proposed control chart is that the traditional Shewhart and EWMA control charts are its special cases. Average run lengths are used to evaluate the performances of each of the control charts. It is worth mentioning that the proposed HEWMA control chart detects smaller shifts substantially quicker than the classical CUSUM, classical EWMA and mixed EWMA–CUSUM control charts.
