TL;DR: Retzius-sparing-robot-assisted radical prostatectomy is faster than the anterior approach to the prostate, allows a shorter catheterisation time and produces dramatically better continence results at four weeks with 90% of patients being pad-free and 97.5% of Patients needing 0–1 pads/day.
Abstract: Objective:The purpose of this study was to investigate urinary continence four weeks following Retzius-sparing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy.Patients and methods:Forty patients with T2–T3 pr...

TL;DR: Overall, both creams were similarly effective clinically, but betamethasone/fusidic acid cream gave a significantly better bacteriological response and was considered by the patients to be a significantly more cosmetically acceptable treatment.
Abstract: The efficacy, tolerability and acceptability of betamethasone valerate 0.1%/fusidic acid 2% cream and betamethasone valerate 0.1%/clioquinol 3% cream were compared in 120 patients of either sex, aged 18 years or over, with a clinical diagnosis of infected hand eczema. Both creams were applied twice daily for up to 4 weeks. Assessments were made by the investigator and by the patient at baseline and at 1, 2 and 4 weeks. Swabs were taken for bacteriological culture at baseline and at the end of treatment. Overall, both creams were similarly effective clinically, with 57.9% of patients given betamethasone/clioquinol and 60.4% of patients given betamethasone/fusidic acid responding (NS; 95% confidence interval for difference -16.1, 21.2). However, betamethasone/fusidic acid cream gave a significantly better bacteriological response (P< 0.005). Both treatments were well tolerated. Betamethasone/fusidic acid cream was considered by the patients to be a significantly more cosmetically acceptable treatment (P<0.0...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present preliminary work aimed at assessing the feasibility of K-edge subtraction imaging using the Spectroscopic information provided by a pixellated energy-resolving Cadmium Zinc Telluride detector, having an active area of 20×20 pixels 250 μm in size.
Abstract: This paper presents preliminary work aimed at assessing the feasibility of K-edge subtraction imaging using the spectroscopic information provided by a pixellated energy-resolving Cadmium Zinc Telluride detector, having an active area of 20×20 pixels 250 μm in size. Images of a test object containing different amounts of Iodine-based contrast agent were formed above and below the K-edge of Iodine (33.2 keV) by integrating, pixel by pixel, different windows of the spectrum. The results show that the optimum integration window for details 1-2 mm in diameter is between 2 keV and 5 keV. Concentrations of down to 50 μg Iodine/ml were detected in a 1-mm diameter tube with an entrance dose of 100 μGy.

TL;DR: Synthetic cartilage implant hemiarthroplasty was appropriate for patients with grade 2, 3, or 4 hallux rigidus and its results in those with associated mild hallux valgus or substantial preoperative stiffness were equivalent to MTPJ1 fusion, irrespective of gender, age, BMI, hallUX rigidus grade, preoperative pain or symptom duration.
Abstract: Background:We evaluated data from a clinical trial of first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ1) implant hemiarthroplasty and arthrodesis to determine the association between patient factors and clinical outcomes. Methods:Patients ≥18 years with hallux rigidus grade 2, 3, or 4 were treated with synthetic cartilage implant MTPJ1 hemiarthroplasty or arthrodesis. Pain visual analog scale (VAS), Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) sports and activities of daily living (ADL) scores, and Short Form-36 Physical Function (SF-36 PF) subscore were obtained preoperatively, and at 2, 6, 12, 24, 52, and 104 weeks postoperatively. Final outcome data, great toe active dorsiflexion motion, secondary procedures, radiographs, and safety parameters were evaluated for 129 implant hemiarthroplasties and 47 arthrodeses. The composite primary endpoint criteria for clinical success included VAS pain reduction ≥30%, maintenance/improvement in function, no radiographic complications, and no secondary surgical intervention at 24 mont...
