Abstract: The traffic analysis of small-cell mobile networks with dynamic channel assignment is investigated to determine their blocking performance, using a hybrid method of analysis and simulation. The authors particularly focus on the performance problems presented by networks with heterogeneous cell traffic loads, the impact of traffic volatility among the cells, and the impact of multichannel traffic on the channel blocking probabilities. Significant improvement in network performance with dynamic channel assignment is established by numerical results. >

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the application of the transmission line model to a contact test pattern of circular symmetry and show that using a circular test pattern, the mesa etch step necessary for the standard rectangular test pattern may be omitted, thus simplifying test pattern fabrication.
Abstract: The measurement of the specific contact resistance of ohmic contacts to semiconductors can be made in a number of ways. One of the methods uses a transmission line model of an ohmic contact on a semiconductor and this paper describes the application of the transmission line model to a contact test pattern of circular symmetry. By using a circular test pattern, the mesa etch step necessary for the standard rectangular test pattern may be omitted, thus simplifying test pattern fabrication.

01 Aug 1990TL;DR: A new motion compensation scheme based on block matching is presented, where the size for each block is variable and the proposed algorithm adaptively divides the image into blocks of vari- able size to meet the assumption on uniform motion for all blocks.
Abstract: Indexing term: Codes and decoding: Algorithms Abstract: In block matching type motion com- pensation schemes, the image is divided into blocks of the same size. For each block a search is conducted in the previous frame to locate the best correspondence. For the scheme to succeed an implicit assumption has to be made that the motion within each block is uniform, an assump- tion which may not necessarily be correct, and as a result the quality of the prediction suffers. In the paper, a new motion compensation scheme based on block matching is presented, where the size for each block is variable. The proposed algorithm adaptively divides the image into blocks of vari- able size to meet the assumption on uniform motion for all blocks. The scheme has been suc- cessfully applied to simple interframe video coding. It is shown that the proposed algorithm can be extended to form the basis of a complete and efficient codec with low complexity. The possibility of the combination of the scheme with novel hybrid coding techniques to form sophisti- cated systems with low bit-rate performance, that compare favourably with other existing schemes, is also demonstrated.

TL;DR: The PROTEAN protocol emulation and analysis computer aid is presented, and it is based on a formal specification technique called numerical Petri nets, and provides both graphical (color) and textual interfaces to the protocol designer.
Abstract: The PROTEAN protocol emulation and analysis computer aid is presented. It is based on a formal specification technique called numerical Petri nets (NPNs), and provides both graphical (color) and textual interfaces to the protocol designer. NPN specifications may be created, stored, appended to other NPNs, structured, edited, listed, displayed, and analyzed. Interactive simulation, exhaustive reachability analysis, and several directed graph analysis facilities are described. Specification languages are compared, with concentration on extended finite state machines and high-level Petri nets. Both the NPN and PROTEAN facilities are described and illustrated with a simple example. The application of PROTEAN to complex examples is mentioned briefly. Work towards a comprehensive protocol engineering workstation is also discussed. >

TL;DR: In this article, an expression for the probability of error in an optical heterodyne DPSK system, subject to shot noise and quantum phase noise of the optical sources, is derived for the maximum linewidth of the transmit and local optical sources to satisfy a given degradation in optical receiver sensitivity.
Abstract: An expression is derived for the probability of error in an optical heterodyne DPSK system, subject to shot noise and quantum phase noise of the optical sources. Results are given for the maximum linewidth of the transmit and local optical sources to satisfy a given degradation in optical receiver sensitivity.
