TL;DR: In this paper, the sulfur K β emission spectra in fluorescence from FeS 2, CoS 2, NiS 2 and 2H-MoS 2 have been measured on a vacuum two-crystal spectrometer.
Abstract: The sulfur K β emission spectra in fluorescence from FeS 2 , CoS 2 , NiS 2 (with pyrite structure) and 2H-MoS 2 (with layered structure) have been measured on a vacuum two-crystal spectrometer. Results are evaluated by comparing the sulfur K β emission spectra with the X-ray photoelectron spectra of the valence-band region for the transition-metal disulfides, with the sulfur L II, III emission spectra and with the recent electronic-structure calculations. A reasonable agreement is obtained between them. It is indicated that the sulfur 3 p -like valence bands of the metal disulfides are very broad and their upper parts overlap with the 3 d - or 4 d -like band of the metals.

TL;DR: In this article, a new method for treating the interconnections of arbitrarily located straight thin wires irradiated by a linearlypolarised plane wave is presented, and the resulting Pocklington's integral equation is solved by the Bubnov-Galerkin projective method.
Abstract: A new method for treating the interconnections of arbitrarily located straight thin wires irradiated by a linearlypolarised plane wave is presented. The resulting Pocklington's integral equation is solved by the Bubnov-Galerkin projective method. The current distribution along the wires is approximated by polynomials with complex coefficients. This formulation is valid for wires forming any angle, with special provision made for the collinear case. Also, a new formulation for finding the self and mutual impedances of the wire configuration has been obtained. Results show excellent agreement with those of other methods.

TL;DR: In this article, the electrostatic ion stoppering in a magnetic mirror field was demonstrated experimentally in rather high plasma density (10−10−1 cm -3 ). But the ion loss from the mirror throat expressed by a loss factor δ, was reduced to about one quarter of the initial value.
Abstract: The electrostatic ion stoppering in a magnetic mirror field is demonstrated experimentally in rather high plasma density (\(10^{10}{<}n_{0}{\lesssim}10^{13}\) cm -3 ). The ion loss from the mirror throat expressed by a loss factor δ, is reduced to about one quarter of the initial value. It is discussed as a confinement mechanism of ions that particles are reflected back adiabatically by the electrostatic field at the mirror throats of the magnetic field.

TL;DR: The results support the concept that the nutritional significance of metabolism of the carbon skeleton of serine in growing rats and chicks is different from each other, especially at high protein diets.
Abstract: The metabolic fate of the carbon skeleton of L-serine-U-14C has been investigated, in vivo and in vitro, in growing rats and chicks fed the diets with various protein calories percents (PC%) at 410 kcal of metabolizable energy. The incorporation of 14C into body protein at 12 hr after the injection of serine-14C was about 49% of the injected dose in rats fed the 10 or 15 PC% diet, though the value was reduced in rats fed lower and higher protein diets. The 14CO2 production was smaller in rats fed the 10 and 15 PC% diet, and it showed an inverse pattern to that of the 14C incorporation into body protein. Urinary excretion of 14C was higher in rats fed 10 and higher PC% diets, whose growth rate and net body protein retention were maximum. In contrast to the case of rats, the incorporation of 14C into body protein of chicks at 6 hr after the injection was rather reduced in the 15 PC% group. The proportion of 14C excreted as uric acid was remarkably increased above the 10 PC% group, and about 19% of the injected dose was recovered in the 50 PC% group. The catabolic rate of serine in the liver slices of rats and chicks was increased by high protein diets. These results support the concept that the nutritional significance of metabolism of the carbon skeleton of serine in growing rats and chicks is different from each other, especially at high protein diets.

TL;DR: In this paper, the optical band shape for the A 1g E u transition in D 4h symmetry has been calculated quantum mechanically, and it is shown that the band shape has a doubly peaked structure even if the two coupling constants are different and the two vibrations have different frequencies.

TL;DR: It was found by amino acid analysis before and after acid hydrolysis of human urine that most glutamic and aspartic acid was in bound form, while glycine, glutamine and as partic acids accounted for about 70% of bound amino acids.
Abstract: It was found by amino acid analysis before and after acid hydrolysis of human urine that most glutamic and aspartic acid was in bound form, while glycine, glutamic and aspartic acids accounted for about 70% of bound amino acids. Fractions rich in peptides containing aspartic acid were obtained by chromatography on various columns, and 7 peptides containing aspartic acid were isolated from these fractions. It may be inferred from these results and from the literatures that there are numerous oligopeptides containing aspartic acid in human urine.

Abstract: The ideal composition of fibers for insulating paper has been clarified by investigating the influence of the shape of fines on dielectric and tensil breakdown of oil-impregnated Kraft paper for OF cable (at oil pressure 1kg/cm2). Furthermore, the pulp refining methods for producing such insulating paper has been developed.

TL;DR: In this article, a gate control scheme was proposed to maximize the input power factor without increasing harmonic contents of input and output currents in a cycloconverter with capacity exceeding 100 MVA.
Abstract: Since the cycloconverter is naturally commutated, it is possible to manufacture a unit of capacity as large as the rectifier. In fact, a cycloconverter of capacity exceeding 100 MVA may be used to drive linear motors for high-speed railway use. Such a large-capacity converter could not be realized by the conventional inverter. It is reported that the price of the cycloconverter is about half that of inverters if the capacity is larger than 10 MVA. This paper proposes a gate control scheme to maximize the input power factor without increasing harmonic contents of input and output currents. Its features can be summarized as follows. (1) The fundamental input power factor is 1.2 to 2 times as high as that of the conventional cycloconverter. (2) The fundamental input power factor is higher than the power factor of the load when the latter is low. (3) Input and output waveforms are better than those of the conventional cycloconverter.
