TL;DR: In this article, the harmful effects of formaldehyde to the human body, and the origins of the formaldehyde from wood-based panels are analyzed, and a systematic solution for formaldehyde reduction, that was developed by the authors, was presented, and three different companies verified it was an effective way to reduce formaldehyde.
Abstract: This article first reviewed the harmful effects of formaldehyde to the human body,and analyzed the origins of formaldehyde from wood-based panels.Then,the conventional ways that have been used to decrease the emission of formaldehyde from wood-based panels are summarized.Finally,a systematic solution for formaldehyde reduction,that was developed by the authors,was presented.The application of this system by three different companies verified it was an effective way to reduce formaldehyde.The panels from these companies meet the demands for level E_1 or E_2 with regard to formaldehyde emission.

Abstract: There is no doubt that the wood-based panel industry in China will develop rapidly in the coming five years.It is predicted that the rate increase for the industry will be 3%~5% higher than that of the increase for the national GDP.Even more important facts are: panel types structure will be optimized,product quality will be improved significantly,scale of production lines will be more economical resulting in faster upgrades within the industry,more well-known brands brought into the market and improvement in profitability for the panel producers.

Abstract: China's national statistics authority reported that China's GDP growth rate in 2005 is expected to reach as high as 9.8%. Such rapid economic and social development provides huge development platforms and opportunities for market supply and demand as well as trade and investment in the forest products sector.The current status and future potential of the forest products industry in China are described for three areas of trade: supply and demand,technical orientation and policy direction;and finally,a summary of the importance of Chinese forest products in the import-export trade of the world's forest products.

Abstract: An intelligent MC measuring system for lumber was designed by the authors and presented in this article.The hardware circuit and software flow chart of this system are described in detail.A dynamic compensation method is applied to eliminate zero drift and temperature drift errors.A test showed that the mean errors of the measured results from this new system was less than 4% above fiber saturation point,and less than 2% below fiber saturation point,and even lower tian 1% around the final MC(14%~9%).These results demonstrated the precision and reliability of the system to be effectively improved.

Abstract: A computer color matching technique for wood dyeing has been developed by using the DC color matching and color information management systems produced by the Datacolor Company in Switzerland.The process includes measuring the color of wood samples,determining dyeset,preparing and measuring basic color samples,establishing a basic data pool,and calculating and correcting recipes.It provides quick calculation,high accuracy and is able to calculate the most economical dyeing scheme while ensuring the accuracy of the color match.

Abstract: Southern type Poplar is one of the dominant forest plantation species in Jiangsu Province,and the Poplar industry has made Jiangsu become one of the biggest producers of wood based panels in China.This paper reviewed the history and current condition of Poplar cultivation and utilization in Jiangsu Province.To build a sustainable industry,the authors suggested that the Poplar industry should stimulate the development of future markets, management of raw materials,R D for production,and promote innovation on technology and business management.They also suggested that the construction of small towns in the northern area of Jiangsu Province should focus on Poplar cultivating and utilization to speed up the development of this new rural area.

Abstract: The measurement of chip moisture content(MC),based on capacitance,was researched.The results from the experiments showed that with given conditions there would be some functional relations between the MC of the chips and the value of their capacitance that were exponential when 5%≤MC25% and were linear when 25%≤MC150%.At these conditions the chip MC could be measured through its capacitance.Models also included chip length,width,and thickness as these had some effect on coefficients that were included as correction factors.

Abstract: The equilibrium absorption content was measured in different conditions by static method.The relations between the pyrolysis temperature,the size of bamboo charcoal particle,absorption temperature and the surface area were studied.The results showed that two kind of bamboo charcoal whose pyrolysis temperature were 700 ℃ and 1000 ℃ had the best absorbing ability.The size of bamboo charcoal particle had little influence on absorption.The ability of absorption could be decreased as the environmental temperature increased.The phenomena of moisture absorption hysteresis were found during moisture desorption and absorption.
