TLDR
Intra- and interspecific variation of thirty-two isolates assignable to the genus Beauveria was evaluated using 64 morphological and biochemical characters, finding spore form was the most useful criterion to distinguish between species.

A Beauveria phylogeny inferred from nuclear ITS and EF1-alpha sequences: evidence for cryptic diversification and links to Cordyceps teleomorphs.

TL;DR: Lineage diversity detected within clades A, B and C suggests that prevailing morphological species concepts underestimate species diversity within these groups, and establishes a phylogenetic framework for further taxonomic, phylogenetic and comparative biological investigations of Beauveria and their corresponding Cordyceps teleomorphs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phylogenetic classification of Cordyceps and the clavicipitaceous fungi

TL;DR: Most diagnostic characters used in current classifications of Cordyceps were not supported as being phylogenetically informative; the characters that were most consistent with the phylogeny were texture, pigmentation and morphology of stromata.

Developments in Fungal Taxonomy

TL;DR: Analyses of rRNA and rDNA sequences constitute an important complement of the morphological criteria needed to allow clinical fungi to be more easily identified and placed on a single phylogenetic tree.

Insect-Fungal Associations: Ecology and Evolution

TL;DR: An impressive short book of ten chapters to cover the most important topics in this field, incorporating new molecular techniques wherever possible, and should appeal to worker in ecology, entomology, mycology, plant pathology, and biological control and pest management.
Journal ArticleDOI

Occurrence of the entomopathogenic fungi Metarhizium anisopliae and Beauveria bassiana in soils from temperate and near-northern habitats

TL;DR: The occurrence of deuteromycetous entomopathogenic fungi was examined in 266 soil samples representing 86 locations across temperate and near northern habitats in Ontario, Canada.

Biological Control of Insect Pests by Entomogenous Fungi

TL;DR: For the past 15 years, research with the entomogenous fungi has benefitted from a renewed interest, which arose from a better understanding of the role of natural phenomena in the regulati on of insect populations, among which epizoot ics caused by fungi have played a d eterminant part in certain cases.

Detection of mycotoxins by thin-layer chromatography: application to screening of fungal extracts.

TL;DR: A convenient thin-layer chromatographic screening procedure for the detection of 18 mycotoxins is described.
