A different perspective on a scale for pairwise comparisons

TLDR
The proposed method of localizing the inconsistency may conceivably be of relevance for nonclassical logics (e.g., paraconsistent logic) and for uncertainty reasoning since it accommodates inconsistency by treating inconsistent data as still useful information.
Abstract
One of the major challenges for collective intelligence is inconsistency, which is unavoidable whenever subjective assessments are involved. Pairwise comparisons allow one to represent such subjective assessments and to process them by analyzing, quantifying and identifying the inconsistencies. We propose using smaller scales for pairwise comparisons and provide mathematical and practical justifications for this change. Our postulate's aim is to initiate a paradigm shift in the search for a better scale construction for pairwise comparisons. Beyond pairwise comparisons, the results presented may be relevant to other methods using subjective scales. Keywords: pairwise comparisons, collective intelligence, scale, subjective assessment, inaccuracy, inconsistency.

A simple method to improve the consistency ratio of the pair-wise comparison matrix in ANP

TL;DR: A simple method, which combines the theorem of matrix multiplication, vectors dot product, and the definition of consistent pair-wise comparison matrix, to identify the inconsistent elements is proposed and the correctness of the proposed method is proved mathematically.

Analytic network process in risk assessment and decision analysis

TL;DR: A maximum eigenvalue threshold is proposed as the consistency index for the ANP in risk assessment and decision analysis and a block diagonal matrix is introduced for the RPCM to conduct consistency tests simultaneously for all comparison matrices.

On Axiomatization of Inconsistency Indicators for Pairwise Comparisons

TL;DR: This study examines the notion of inconsistency in pairwise comparisons for providing an axiomatization for it and proposes two inconsistency indicators for pairwise comparison.

Axiomatization of inconsistency indicators for pairwise comparisons

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed revised axioms for defining inconsistency indicators in pairwise comparisons, including the new findings that PC submatrix cannot have a worse inconsistency indicator than the PC matrix containing it and that there must be a PC sub-matrix with the same inconsistency as the given PC matrix.

Notes on order preservation and consistency in AHP

TL;DR: The presented work defines more precise criteria for determining when the conditions of order preservation (COP) are met, and an error factor is used describing how far the input to the ranking procedure is from the ranking result.

The Analytic Hierarchy Process

TL;DR: Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as mentioned in this paper is a systematic procedure for representing the elements of any problem hierarchically, which organizes the basic rationality by breaking down a problem into its smaller constituent parts and then guides decision makers through a series of pairwise comparison judgments to express the relative strength or intensity of impact of the elements in the hierarchy.

A Scaling Method for Priorities in Hierarchical Structures

TL;DR: A method of scaling ratios using the principal eigenvector of a positive pairwise comparison matrix is investigated, showing that λmax = n is a necessary and sufficient condition for consistency.

Simultaneous conjoint measurement: A new type of fundamental measurement

TL;DR: In this article, the essential character of simultaneous conjoint measurement is described by an axiomatization for the comparision of effects of (or responses to) pairs formed from two specified kinds of "quantities".

Essai Sur L'Application de L'Analyse a la Probabilite Des Decisions Rendues a la Pluralite Des Voix

TL;DR: Condorcet's paradox (the non-transitivity of majority preferences) is seen as the direct ancestor of Arrow's paradox as discussed by the authors, and it was rediscovered as a foundational work in the theory of voting and societal preferences.
