The development of a simulation environment, where three different manipulators to be mounted on a commercially available wheelchair have been considered, and results are discussed in a significant case study, based upon users’ feedback.Abstract:
The design of solutions for robotic extenders of wheelchairs must take into account both objective and subjective metrics for everyday activities in human environments. Virtual Reality (VR) constitutes a useful tool to effectively test design ideas and to verify performance criteria. This paper presents the development of a simulation environment, where three different manipulators to be mounted on a commercially available wheelchair have been considered. Experimental results are discussed in a significant case study, based upon users’ feedback.read more

A virtual reality approach for usability assessment: case study on a wheelchair-mounted robot manipulator
TL;DR: This case study relates to the usability assessment of two control devices for a wheelchair-mounted robot manipulator to assist physically disabled people on the basis of two currently used methods: the multi criteria decision analysis and the Saaty’s analytic hierarchy process.

Assessing the acceptability of human-robot co-presence on assembly lines: A comparison between actual situations and their virtual reality counterparts

TL;DR: Virtual reality may be a good tool to assess the acceptability of human-robot collaboration and draw preliminary results through questionnaires, but that physical experiments are still necessary to a complete study, especially when dealing with physiological measures.

Coupling of a Redundant Manipulator with a Virtual Reality Environment to Enhance Human-robot Cooperation ☆
TL;DR: In this paper, a digital model of a redundant manipulator (KUKA LBR iiwa) has been developed starting with kinematic modeling and then coupled with the real robot.

A methodology to assess the acceptability of human-robot collaboration using virtual reality
TL;DR: The results showed that the perception of robot movements depended on robot appearance and that a more anthropomorphic robot, both in its appearance and movements, was not necessarily better accepted by the users in a collaboration task.
