Journal ArticleDOI

Self-assembly of hekates-tris(N-salicylideneaniline)s into columnar structures: synthesis and characterization.

TL;DR: Two series of new, photoluminescent star-shaped discotic liquid crystals, recently termed as "hekates", derived from tris(N-salicylideneaniline)s (TSANs), were synthesized by the facile threefold condensation of 3,4-bis(alkoxy)phenyl 4-aminobenzoates/3,4,5-tris(alksoxy) phenyl 4
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular Forms of Rhodamine B in Dip-Coated Thin Films

TL;DR: In this article, thin sol−gel films including rhodamine B (RB) and tetraethyl orthosilicate have been prepared as a function of time after mixing of the reaction syst...
Journal ArticleDOI

The food colorant erythrosine is a promiscuous protein–protein interaction inhibitor

TL;DR: Among the seven FDA-approved food colorants, only erythrosine showed consistent PPI inhibitory activity in the sub-100 μM range, which might also explain why it also has the lowest approved acceptable daily intake (ADI) (0.1 mg/kg body weight/day).
Journal ArticleDOI

Separation of scattering and absorption contributions in UV/visible spectra of resonant systems.

TL;DR: A simple method is described to obtain absorption spectra of aggregated species with a fairly good correction of the scattering component, and this method has been successfully applied both on real samples containing aggregated chromophores, such as porphyrins, chlorophyll a and gold colloids, and by simulating extinction spectra.
Journal ArticleDOI

Photoprocesses in dimers of thiacarbocyanines

TL;DR: In this article, the properties of monomeric and dimeric thiacarbocyanine and three derivatives with methyl (2) and ethyl (3 and 4) meso-substituents were studied in aqueous solution by time-resolved and steady-state spectroscopic methods.

Energy transfer mechanisms and the molecular exciton model for molecular aggregates.

TL;DR: The literature contains numerous experiments designed to demonstrate the presence of excitation energy transfer, and the goal of theseresearches mightwell be not merely the demonstration of the presence, but a more detailed investigation designed to establish which available mechanism of energy transfer is operative.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantum yield of singlet oxygen production by xanthene derivatives

TL;DR: In this article, the triplet oxygen quantum yield of 11 purified fluorescein derivatives was determined by reaction with singlet oxygen acceptors in aqueous and ethanolic solutions; in both solvents ϕ1o2 was enhanced with increasing halogenation.
