An empirical model of the earth's plasmasphere

TLDR
In this paper, an empirical model for plasmaspheric low-energy plasma consisting of H(+) was developed from a data base derived from measurements taken by the Retarding Ion Mass Spectrometer on the DE-1 satellite.

International Reference Ionosphere 2000

Dieter Bilitza
- 01 Mar 2001 -
TL;DR: The International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) is the international standard for the specification of ionospheric densities and temperatures as mentioned in this paper, which was developed and is being improved-updated by a joint working group of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) and the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR).

Global Core Plasma Model

TL;DR: The Global Core Plasma Model (GCPM) as discussed by the authors is an attempt to assimilate previous empirical evidence and regional models into a continuous, smooth model of thermal plasma density in the inner magnetosphere.

RPC : The rosetta plasma consortium

TL;DR: The Rosetta Plasma Consortium (RPC) will make in-situ measurements of the plasma environment of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko as discussed by the authors, which will provide the complementary data sets necessary for an understanding of plasma processes in the inner coma, and the structure and evolution of the coma with the increasing cometary activity.

Automated daily process for global ionospheric total electron content maps and satellite ocean altimeter ionospheric calibration based on Global Positioning System data

TL;DR: The accuracy of single-frequency ocean altimeters benefits from calibration of the total electron content (TEC) of the ionosphere below the satellite as discussed by the authors, and the accuracy of the ocean altimeter can be improved by calibrating the TEC.

Identifying the plasmapause in IMAGE EUV data using IMAGE RPI in situ steep density gradients

TL;DR: In this article, the location of the He + edge was extracted from the closest-in-time EUV image and a correlation coefficient of 0.83 was obtained, and when the EUV He+edge location was taken as the average of two EUV measurements (one before and one after the RPI measurement), the correlation coefficient increased to 0.87.

Bulk motion of the magnetosphere

TL;DR: In this article, an upper atmosphere geophysical measurements are surveyed to determine to what extent the available data support the concept of bulk motion of the magnetosphere (convection) and the associated electric field.

The morphology of the bulge region of the plasmasphere

TL;DR: Plasmasphere bulge region morphology from hydrogen ion concentration measurement by mass spectrometer on OGO 5 satellite was obtained from the OGO-5 satellite as mentioned in this paper, which was used for the measurement.

International reference ionosphere: Recent developments

Dieter Bilitza
- 01 May 1986 -
TL;DR: In this article, the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) model is compared with the AEROS satellite data and it is shown that the IRI model is inaccurate in its description of the latitudinal behavior of the electron density in the ionosphere close to the magnetic equator.

Global empirical models of ionospheric electron temperature in the upper F-region and plasmasphere based on in situ measurements from the Atmosphere Explorer-C, ISIS-1 and ISIS-2 satellites

TL;DR: In this paper, the behavior of T sub e at the altitudes of these models is discussed in terms of its implications for our understanding of the energy exchange between the F-region and the plasmasphere.
