A Method of Synthesizing Handwritten Chinese Images for Data Augmentation

TL;DR: This work proposes a novel strategy, in the particular case of Chinese characters, to generate synthetic lines of text, given samples of the isolated characters, using the well-known CASIA database to train MDLSTM-RNN models and also in the creation of synthetic line images.
Journal ArticleDOI

Robust document binarization with OFF center-surround cells

TL;DR: The proposed algorithm combines the characteristics of the OFF center-surround cells of the HVS with the classic Otsu binarization technique, increasing the efficiency of the algorithm and reducing the extracted noise in the final output.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Local Contrast Segmentation to Binarize Images

TL;DR: A new binarization algorithm for degraded document images is proposed, based on positive and negative pixel energies using the Laplacian of an image, which is able to detecting connected components in connected components.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Binarization of Degraded Document Images using Convolutional Neural Networks Based on Predicted Two-Channel Images

TL;DR: The results presented in this work show that the approach fully outperforms SegNet and U-net when trained by the original images and demonstrates competitiveness and robustness compared with state-of-the-art results using the DIBCO database.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Improved Thresholding Method for Enhancing Jawi Binarization Performance

TL;DR: A new approach to calculating k values for the NICK binarization method is proposed: the k value is set based on the standard deviation of the image to indicate that the k values produced by the proposed method can adapt to the state of the manuscript and that using them for NICK thresholding can increase binarized performance.
