TLDR
This investigation stresses the importance of investigating possible differences in reactions in order to make valid comparisons between results of annoyance studies carried out in different countries.Abstract:
Annoyance reactions to motor vehicle noise have been studied in Sweden and Italy. Every possible care has been taken to assure that the interview forms used to measure reactions have been translated adequately. Exposure factors have been stratified strictly. Nevertheless a difference in exposure could be detected when check measurements were carried out. Despite a higher noise level in Italian homes, annoyance reactions were fewer. This investigation stresses the importance of investigating possible differences in reactions in order to make valid comparisons between results of annoyance studies carried out in different countries.read more

Environmental noise and health: An integrated research perspective
TL;DR: In this article, the integration of physiological, psychological, and ecological approaches within a combined transactional-contextual research perspective provides the best available framework for future studies and reanalysis of earlier studies given the necessary information is provided.
An Updated Catalog of 521 Social Surveys of Residents' Reactions to Environmental Noise (1943-2000)
TL;DR: This paper described all social surveys of residents' reactions to environmental noise in residential areas that have been located in English language publications from 1943 to December of 2000, and a total of 521 surveys are described.

Comparison of community response to road traffic noise in japan and sweden—part i: outline of surveys and dose–response relationships
TL;DR: Social surveys were conducted in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Kumamoto and Sapporo, Japan using the same questionnaire and noise measurement method, finding people living in detached houses were more annoyed by the house vibration caused by road traffic than those living in apartments and people wereassed by the exhaust from road traffic to the same extent as noise.

Concepts of Perceived Noisiness, Their Implementation and Application
TL;DR: It would appear that the average threshold of general noisiness or annoyance for the sound environment of a typical residential area occurs at about 50 PNdBt forSounds measured indoors and at 70 PN dBt for sounds measured outdoors; these threshold values can be utilized to advantage in conjunction with EPNL and ECNR.
