TLDR
For the knee, mathematical analyses for the sagittal plane were performed on data obtained from roentgenograms and a load cell incorporated in a specially constructed force table to find the axis of rotation for the knee displaced 3·2 cm through a 90° range.

A simple method for measurement of mechanical power in jumping.

TL;DR: The new jumping test seems suitable to evaluate the power output of leg extensor muscles during natural motion because of its high reproducibility and simplicity, and is suitable for laboratory and field conditions.

Clinical Measurement of Range of Motion Review of Goniometry Emphasizing Reliability and Validity

TL;DR: Clinicians should adopt standardized methods of testing and should interpret and report goniometric results as ROM measurements only, not as measurements of factors that may affect ROM, to improve the reliability and validity of goniometry.

Muscular coactivation The role of the antagonist musculature in maintaining knee stability

TL;DR: It was concluded that coactivation of the antagonist is necessary to aid the ligaments in maintaining joint stability, equalizing the articular surface pressure dis tribution, and regulating the joint's mechanical imped ance.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparison of knee joint motion patterns between men and women in selected athletic tasks.

TL;DR: Women on average may have certain motor control strategies that may alter their knee motion patterns that may contribute to the increased anterior cruciate ligament injury rate among women, according to a comparison between men and women recreational athletes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Strength and cross‐sectional area of human skeletal muscle.

TL;DR: The variation between subjects is such that strength is not a useful predictive index of muscle cross‐sectional area, and a wide variation in the ratio of strength to muscle cross-sectional area was observed.

The mechanics of the knee joint in relation to normal walking.

TL;DR: The mechanics of the knee joint were simplified and defined in mathematical terms and the assumptions made in defining the joint ‘model’ described were discussed.

Quadriceps function. An anatomical and mechanical study using amputated limbs.

TL;DR: This anatomical, mechanical study demonstrated that early atrophy of the vastus medialis prominence and loss of terminal extension after injury are indicative of general quadriceps weakness.
