TLDR
The BVD-prevalence in cattle at the individual and herd levels following the implementation of the eradication programme was assessed and a risk factor analysis was conducted in order to identify factors associated with the appearance of virus positive newborn calves in herds where BVD had not previously been detected.

What is the global economic impact of Neospora caninum in cattle - the billion dollar question.

TL;DR: This estimate of global losses due to N. caninum, with the identification of clear target markets (countries, as well as cattle industries), should provide an incentive to develop treatment options and/or vaccines.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bovine viral diarrhoea: Pathogenesis and diagnosis

TL;DR: The pathogenesis and pathology of BVD viral infection is outlined and knowledge is used to select the best diagnostic tests for clinical diagnosis, monitoring, control and eradication efforts.
Journal Article

BVDV control and eradication in Europe--an update.

TL;DR: This short review discusses the general model of BVDV control, and gives an overview of strategies used within, and the current status of, the ongoing control programmes in Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI

Predicted costs and benefits of eradicating BVDV from Ireland

TL;DR: The annualised benefits of BVDV eradication in Ireland exceeded the costs by a factors of 5 in the beef suckler sector and a factor of 14 in the dairy sector, and suggest a clear economic benefit to eradication using the proposed approach.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bovine viral diarrhea virus in free-ranging wild ruminants in Switzerland: low prevalence of infection despite regular interactions with domestic livestock.

TL;DR: Serological, virological and ethological data indicate that wildlife is currently an incidental spill-over host and not a reservoir for BVDV in Switzerland, despite regular occurrence of interactions with potentially infected livestock.

An introduction to the bootstrap

TL;DR: This article presents bootstrap methods for estimation, using simple arguments, with Minitab macros for implementing these methods, as well as some examples of how these methods could be used for estimation purposes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multivariable prognostic models: issues in developing models, evaluating assumptions and adequacy, and measuring and reducing errors

TL;DR: In this article, an easily interpretable index of predictive discrimination as well as methods for assessing calibration of predicted survival probabilities are discussed, which are particularly needed for binary, ordinal, and time-to-event outcomes.
BookDOI

Regression modeling strategies : with applications to linear models, logistic regression, and survival analysis

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a case study in least squares fitting and interpretation of a linear model, where they use nonparametric transformations of X and Y to fit a linear regression model.
Book ChapterDOI

Prognostic/Clinical Prediction Models: Multivariable Prognostic Models: Issues in Developing Models, Evaluating Assumptions and Adequacy, and Measuring and Reducing Errors

TL;DR: An easily interpretable index of predictive discrimination as well as methods for assessing calibration of predicted survival probabilities are discussed, applicable to all regression models, but are particularly needed for binary, ordinal, and time-to-event outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Regression Modeling Strategies: With Applications to Linear Models, Logistic Regression, and Survival Analysis

TL;DR: The basic Bayesian framework must be constrained, use of the step function in computing the probability that a team would rank best or worst in a league, and implementation of a Dirichlet process prior are presented.
