Flow over and forced convection heat transfer in Newtonian fluids from a semi-circular cylinder

TL;DR: In this paper, a semi-circular cylinder immersed in unconfined flowing Newtonian fluids has been investigated numerically, and the authors investigated the drag and heat transfer properties of the semi-circle cylinder in the steady flow regime.

Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer from Circular and Noncircular Cylinders Submerged in Non-Newtonian Liquids

TL;DR: In this paper, the role of non-Newtonian flow characteristics of structured fluids on the hydrodynamic and convective heat and mass transport processes for bluff bodies of various shapes immersed in streaming (unconfined or confined) or quiescent fluids in different flow regimes is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of power-law index on transitional Reynolds numbers for flow over a semi-circular cylinder

TL;DR: In this article, a semi-circular cylinder with its curved surface in the upstream direction has been solved numerically for continuous and Cauchy momentum equations, and the critical Reynolds numbers denoting the onset of flow separation from the surface of the cylinder and the beginning of the laminar vortex shedding regime were delineated.

Flow of power-law fluids past an equilateral triangular cylinder: Momentum and heat transfer characteristics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed extensive numerical simulations for the 2D laminar flow of power-law fluids over an equilateral triangular cylinder to elucidate the role of power law index (0.2 ≤ n ≤ 1.8) on the critical Reynolds number denoting the onset of flow separation and vortex shedding.

Fluid flow and heat transfer around a confined semi-circular cylinder: Onset of vortex shedding and effects of Reynolds and Prandtl numbers

TL;DR: In this article, a semi-circular cylinder placed in a confined channel is investigated in the unsteady regime, and the two-dimensional simulations are carried out for varying values of control parameters: Reynolds number (Re) = 50-200 and Prandtl number (Pr) = 0.7, 10 and 100 at a fixed blockage ratio of 25% for Newtonian constant-property fluid.

Numerical Simulation of a Cylinder in Uniform Flow

TL;DR: In this article, a virtual boundary technique is applied to the numerical simulation of stationary and moving cylinders in uniform flow, which readily allows the imposition of a no-slip boundary within the flow field by a feedback forcing term added to the momentum equations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamic fracture using element-free galerkin methods

TL;DR: The element-free Galerkin method for dynamic crack propagation is described and applied to several problems as mentioned in this paper, which facilitates the modelling of growing crack problems because it does not require remeshing; the growth of the crack is modelled by extending its surfaces.

Diffuse approximation and control-volume-based finite-element methods : A comparative study

TL;DR: In this article, a comparison between the diffuse approximation method (DAM) and the control-volume finite element method (CVFEM) is made for several test cases between the two methods.
