Journal ArticleDOI
Using atmospheric plasma to increase wettability, imbibition and germination of physically dormant seeds of Mimosa Caesalpiniafolia.
A.R.M. da Silva,Mikelly de Lima Farias,Douglas S. da Silva,Jussier de Oliveira Vitoriano,R. C. de Sousa,Clodomiro Alves-Júnior +5 more
TL;DR: There must be an optimal wettability and imbibition condition that ensures that excessive moisture does not harm the germination process, and plasma treatment was also effective in improving germination, but shorter treatment duration presented greater germination.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predicting relative permeability from water retention: a direct approach based on fractal geometry.
TL;DR: In this article, a probabilistic fractal approach was proposed to predict relative permeability by direct application of measured soil water retention data without any fitting procedures, which appeared in series form as a function of suction and the incremental change in water content.

Spontaneous Formation of Nanopatterns in Velocity-Dependent Dip-Coated Organic Films: From Dragonflies to Stripes
Tomas P. Corrales,M. Bai,Valeria del Campo,Pia Homm,Piero Ferrari,Armand Diama,Christian Wagner,Haskell Taub,Klaus Knorr,Moshe Deutsch,Maria Jose Retamal,Ulrich G. Volkmann,Patrick Huber,Patrick Huber,Patrick Huber +14 more
TL;DR: The stripes' strong crystalline texture and the well-defined separation are due to an anisotropic 2D crystallization in narrow liquid fingers, which result from a Marangoni flow driven hydrodynamic instability in the evaporating dip-coated films, akin to the tears of wine phenomenology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intrinsically high-Q dynamic AFM imaging in liquid with a significantly extended needle tip.
TL;DR: Dynamic AFM imaging of samples in liquid at an intrinsic Q factor of over 100 and an operational frequency of over 200 kHz was demonstrated and the method has the potential to be extended to acquire viscoelastic material properties and provide truly gentle imaging of soft biological samples in physiological environments.
Journal ArticleDOI
An augmented method for free boundary problems with moving contact lines
TL;DR: In this article, an augmented immersed interface method (IIM) is proposed for simulating one-phase moving contact line problems in which a liquid drop spreads or recoils on a solid substrate.
