Water, energy, and carbon integrated footprint analysis from the environmental-economic perspective for apple production in China
TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors constructed an environmental-economic coupled water, energy, and carbon integrated footprint (WECF) assessment method to evaluate apple production in China and found that the overall environmental WECF of apple production was dominated by fertilizer production process and irrigation, whereas the internal costs of labor and fertilizer and external costs of human health were the major contributors to economic impacts.

The water footprint of humanity
TL;DR: The study illustrates the global dimension of water consumption and pollution by showing that several countries heavily rely on foreign water resources and that many countries have significant impacts on water consumptionand pollution elsewhere.

Water footprints of nations: Water use by people as a function of their consumption pattern
TL;DR: The water footprint of a country is defined as the volume of water needed for the production of the goods and services consumed by the inhabitants of the country as mentioned in this paper, which shows the extent of water use in relation to consumption of people.
