TLDR
In this paper, the authors developed and validated measures of causation and effectuation approaches to new venture creation and test their measures with two samples of entrepreneurs in young firms and found that effectuation is a formative, multidimensional construct with three associated sub-dimensions (experimentation, affordable loss, and flexibility) and one dimension shared with the pre-commitments.

Corporate effectuation: Entrepreneurial action and its impact on R&D project performance

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a multi-factor measurement model of effectuation and causation for R&D projects and applied it to test two central hypotheses: (a) effectuation is positively related to success in highly innovative contexts, and (b) causation approaches are beneficial in projects with low levels of innovativeness.
Journal ArticleDOI

An Effectual Approach to International Entrepreneurship: Overlaps, Challenges, and Provocative Possibilities

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors outline several interesting observations about international entrepreneurship research through the theoretical lens of effectuation and show how an effectual approach can help resolve four central conflicts and knowledge gaps identified in two recent comprehensive reviews of IE.
Journal ArticleDOI

Understanding dynamics of strategic decision-making in venture creation : a process study of effectuation and causation

TL;DR: This paper applied a longitudinal process research approach to investigate strategic decision-making in new venture creation over time, drawing upon effectuation and causation as examples of planning-based and flexible decision making logics, and investigates dynamics in the use of both logics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Crowdfunding social ventures: a model and research agenda

TL;DR: In this article, a review of existing literature on crowdfunding and social entrepreneurship is presented, based upon which the author draws up a schema of crowdfunding's inner workings and subsequently discusses it in an SE context.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effectuation As Ineffectual? Applying the 3E Theory-Assessment Framework to a Proposed New Theory of Entrepreneurship

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide a formal assessment of effectuation as a theory and highlight its strengths and weaknesses, leveraging the former to address the latter in five different directions that would build on the existing work to improve this theory.

Multivariate Data Analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, a six-step framework for organizing and discussing multivariate data analysis techniques with flowcharts for each is presented, focusing on the use of each technique, rather than its mathematical derivation.

Alternative Ways of Assessing Model Fit

TL;DR: In this paper, two types of error involved in fitting a model are considered, error of approximation and error of fit, where the first involves the fit of the model, and the second involves the model's shape.
