Centrifuge modeling of large-diameter underground pipes subjected to heavy traffic loads

TLDR
In this paper, the authors describe the procedure and results of a series of geotec-based geotechnical simulations of large diameter pipes and heavy vehicles, as well as their effects on pipe design.
Abstract
Large-diameter pipes, as well as heavy vehicles, have become increasingly prevalent, which imposes uncertainties on pipe design. This paper describes the procedure and results of a series of geotec...

Three-dimensional centrifuge and numerical modeling of the interaction between perpendicularly crossing tunnels

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of induced stress on an adjacent tunnel were investigated and the authors concluded that tunnel driving inevitably induces changes in stress and deformation in the ground, which could cause ultimate and serviceability problems to the adjacent tunnel.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparative study of the response of buried pipes under static and moving loads

TL;DR: In this article, a robust finite element analysis was used to investigate the effect of the truck speed, pipe stiffness and loading conditions on the maximum displacement of buried pipes, and it was found that the ratio of the static to dynamic pipe displacement decreases as the pipe stiffness increases and increases to a lesser extent as the vehicle speed increases.

The longitudinal response of buried large-diameter reinforced concrete pipeline with gasketed bell-and-spigot joints subjected to traffic loading

TL;DR: In this paper, the longitudinal response of a reinforced concrete pipeline with gasketed bell-and-spigot joints subjected to traffic loading is investigated through three-dimensional numerical simulation.

Experimental and numerical study on polymer grouting pretreatment technology in void and corroded concrete pipes

TL;DR: In this paper, an innovative trenchless pretreatment technology for concrete pipes with corrosion and void defects, termed as the membrane bag pile polymer grouting pretreatment (MBP-PGP) technology, was developed in the field test.
Journal ArticleDOI

The response of buried pipes to UK standard traffic loading

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of pipe diameter and backfill height for rigid (concrete) and flexible (polyvinyl chloride (PVC)) pipes was studied using three-dimensional finite-element modelling.

Factors influencing the structural deterioration and collapse of rigid sewer pipes

TL;DR: A review of the numerous factors that have been recognized as influencing the structural stability of rigid sewer pipes in the field is provided in this paper, where a description of the general process of rigid pipe deterioration and failure is provided and the factors influencing this process considered in three main groups, namely, construction features, local external factors and other factors.

Structural mechanics of buried pipes

TL;DR: Preliminary ring design ring deformation is discussed in this article, where the authors propose a preliminary ring design for the construction of buried pipes and tanks and evaluate the feasibility of the proposed ring design.
