Precipitation and dissolution processes in γ/γ′ single crystal nickel-based superalloys

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental analysis of the γ ↔ γ + γ → phase transformations in two single-crystal Nickel-based superalloys is presented, characterised by differential thermal analysis and dilatometry measurements and microscopically by qualitative and quantitative metallography of samples quenched during various thermal cycles.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the effect of Re addition on microstructural evolution of a CoNi-based superalloy

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of rhenium (Re) addition on microstructural evolution of a new low-density Co-Ni-Al-Mo-Nb based superalloy is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Strain Effect on the γ′ Dissolution at High Temperatures of a Nickel-Based Single Crystal Superalloy

TL;DR: In this article, a modified Polystar model is proposed to incorporate the role of the accumulated plastic strain on the γ′ dissolution kinetics and to achieve a better predictability of the creep deformation under non-isothermal loading paths.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of heat treatment on microstructure and stress rupture life of DD32 single crystal Ni-base superalloy

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of heat treatment on microstructure and stress rupture life of DD32 single crystal Ni-base superalloy was investigated and it was shown that the more regular the cubic shape of γ′ precipitate, the more homogeneous the size of ǫ precipitate and the longer the creep rupture life after heat treatment, the better the stability of MC-type carbide in DD32 alloy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of ruthenium on microstructural evolution in a model CoAlW superalloy

TL;DR: The effect of 2.1 Ru addition on the elemental partitioning and microstructural evolution of a base Co-8.4Al-7.3W at.% superalloy, consisting of a γ-(fcc) matrix with γ’-(L12 structure) precipitates is studied using scanning electron microscopy and atom-probe tomography.

The effect of volume fraction on particle coarsening: theoretical considerations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors modified the theory of diffusion-controlled particle coarsening developed by Lifshitz and Slyozov and Wagner (LSW) to take into account the volume fraction, φ, of precipitate.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of volume fraction of precipitate on ostwald ripening

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors extended the classical theory of the coarsening of precipitate particles by competitive growth to include the effect of encounters between growing particles using the method outlined by Lifshitz and Slyosov [J. phys. solids19, 35 (1961)].
Journal ArticleDOI

The growth of γ′ precipitates in nickel-base superalloys

TL;DR: In this paper, the development of precipitates in a range of nickel-base superalloys is investigated and the morphology is correlated with the size and sign of the γ γ′ misfit, measured using convergent beam electron diffraction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Theoretical analysis of strain-induced shape changes in cubic precipitates during coarsening

TL;DR: In this paper, the evolution of the shape of a coherent, cubic precipitate as it grows by coarsening is studied. But the model assumes a precipitate of cubic phase with negative elastic anisotropy, and neglects any difference between the elastic constants of the precipitate and the matrix.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of elastic interaction energy on the morphology of γ′precipitates in nickel-based alloys

TL;DR: In this article, the elastic interaction between the ogdoad or double γ′ particles formed by the split reduces the total energy by overcoming the marked increase in surface energy due to the split.
