Singular value decomposition and least squares solutions

TL;DR: The decomposition of A is called the singular value decomposition (SVD) and the diagonal elements of ∑ are the non-negative square roots of the eigenvalues of A T A; they are called singular values.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hyperquad simulation and speciation (HySS): a utility program for the investigation of equilibria involving soluble and partially soluble species

TL;DR: Hyperquad simulation and speciation (HySS) as mentioned in this paper is a computer program written for the Windows operating system on personal computers which provides simulating titration curves and a system for providing speciation diagrams.
Journal ArticleDOI

What every computer scientist should know about floating-point arithmetic

TL;DR: This paper presents a tutorial on the aspects of floating-point that have a direct impact on designers of computer systems, and concludes with examples of how computer system builders can better support floating point.
Journal ArticleDOI

Generalization of backpropagation with application to a recurrent gas market model

TL;DR: This paper will derive a generalization of backpropagation to recurrent systems (which input their own output), such as hybrids of perceptron-style networks and Grossberg/Hopfield networks, and does not require the storage of intermediate iterations to deal with continuous recurrence.
Journal ArticleDOI

An algorithm for reducing the bandwidth and profile of a sparse matrix

TL;DR: Extensive testing on finite element matrices indicates that the algorithm typically produces bandwidth and profile which are comparable to those of the commonly-used reverse Cuthill–McKee algorithm, yet requires significantly less computation time.

Numerical methods for elastic structural stability analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the Gauss-Seidel, the successive overrelaxation, the conjugate gradient, the Cholesky's square root, and the cholesky decomposition methods for solving systems of linear algebraic equations encountered in structural analysis are considered.
Journal ArticleDOI

Simulation of Molecular Weight Distributions of Poly(N-[10-(n-docosane[oxycarbonyl])-n-decyl maleimide]) from Isothermal Fractional Precipitation Data and Comparison with Distributions from Size Exclusion Chromatography of Fractions

TL;DR: In this paper, the results of isothermal fractional precipitation are simulated and compared with size exclusion chromatography (SEC) data, by means of a nonlinear autocalibration of log M ¥ w versus elution time at the peak, t e (peak).
Journal ArticleDOI

Parametric method for retrieval of the radiation pattern of an elongated source by near-field measurements

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for determining the radiation pattern of an elongated source by near-field pressure measurements is proposed, which is based on parameterization of the transducer by a set of spherical sources.
Journal ArticleDOI

Some Findings on the Minus-Sign Problem for the Hubbard Model in the Projector Quantum Monte Carlo Method

TL;DR: In this article, the quantum Monte Carlo method for the Hubbard model using the Hubbard-Stratonovich transformation is reexamined and it is observed that the value of the ground state energy for a 3×2 and 4×4 system is estimated correctly by ignoring the minus-sign of the negative sampling weight appearing in the simulation using the projector method.
Journal ArticleDOI

Direct methods of solving systems of linear algebraic ef ions with complex a-matrices

TL;DR: Algorithms of computer algebra are proposed for solving systems of linear algebraic equations with complex Á- matrices and an analysis of roundoff errors for the computational schemes considered is given.
