On the diffraction theory of optical images

TL;DR: The theory of image formation is formulated in terms of the coherence function in the object plane, the diffraction distribution function of the image-forming system and a function describing the structure of the object.

Multi-focal diffractive ophthalmic lenses

TL;DR: In this paper, a lens according to the invention has diffractive power and two primary foci, where one focus is associated with the first diffractive order and one with the second order.

Effects of diffraction efficiency on the modulation transfer function of diffractive lenses

TL;DR: The integrated efficiency is shown to be the limiting value for the optical transfer function; in most cases it serves as an overall scale factor for the transfer function.

X-ray microscopy

TL;DR: The main advances have been in intense sources, principally synchrotron radiation and plasma sources and in X-ray optical components such as grazing incidence reflectors, multilayer mirrors and zone plates as mentioned in this paper.

Stigmatic imaging by zone plates: a generalized treatment

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a new and succinct formulation for the zone radii of zone plates in terms of the focal length and the object-to-image throw of the imaging configuration.

Image Formation in the Scanning Microscope

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of various arrangements using lenses with annular pupil functions is discussed, and it is found that Type 2 microscopes have improved imaging properties over conventional microscopes and that these may be further improved by use of one or two lenses with ANNular pupils.
