Correlated morphometric and biochemical analysis of gingival tissue in early chronic gingivitis in man
TLDR
The findings strongly suggest that the “early gingival lesion” has the characteristics of a cellular hypersensitivity reaction and that lymphocytes, possibly by means of cytotoxic factors or direct cell-to-cell interactions, affect the synthetic activity of fibroblasts, leading to alterations in connective tissue substances.Citations

The role of inflammatory mediators in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease.
TL;DR: The role of bacteria in the initiation of periodontitis is well-documented and the end result, destruction of the alveolar bone and periodontal connective tissue, is readily observed; but the events occurring between these two points in time remain obscure and are the focus of this paper.

Factors in virulence expression and their role in periodontal disease pathogenesis.
TL;DR: The classic progression of the development of periodontitis with its associated formation of an inflammatory lesion is characterized by a highly reproducible microbiological progression of a Gram-positive microbiota to a highly pathogenic Gram-negative one.

The fibroblast and wound repair
TL;DR: This review of connective tissue repair has attempted to place into historical perspective information obtained by newer approaches, what is known of the inflammatory response, the fine structure of the connective tissues cells in healing wounds and with correlated chemical findings in these tissues.

TL;DR: Connective tissue repair was studied in a series of skin wounds in young adult males, finding cells which appear like poorly developed or immature fibroblasts can be followed during the different stages of wound repair.

TL;DR: The cytopathic effect of lymph node cells from tuberculin-sensitized rats on rat embryo fibroblasts in the presence of PPD was not enhanced by admixture of normal (nonsensitized) lymph nodes, and preincubation studies showed that this in vitro response is initiated by the reaction of lymphocytes with specific antigen.

Lymphocyte Cytotoxicity in vitro : Activation and Release of a Cytotoxic Factor
TL;DR: Treating lymphocytes in vitro by various techniques known to induce blast cells, and to test the culture medium for the presence of cytotoxic material, found lymphocyte-induced destruction of target cells to be related to the capacity of the aggressor lymphocyte to undergo enlargement and form blast cells.
