Interfacing DNA hydrogels with ceramics for biofunctional architectural materials

- 01 Mar 2022 -
TL;DR: In this paper , DNA encoding genetic information is converted into a hydrogel matrix, termed Meta P-gel, which allows it to adsorb to patterned ceramic surfaces in a spatially controlled manner.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reviewed Interpretations and Inspirations on the Development and Strategies of Garden City Theory in Singapore

Qinyu Feng
TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider the construction of Garden Cities in Singapore from the perspective of the history of urban development and urbanization, in conjunction with the development and trends of vertical greening systems and summarise the principles of development in modern ecosystems in the context of rapid urbanisation and high population density trends.

Measuring the economic value of green roofing in South Korea: A contingent valuation approach

TL;DR: In this article , the authors analyzed the public willingness to pay for the building of green roofs in South Korea, using the contingent valuation method, and found that the public is willing to pay KRW 4,445 (USD 3.77) per household per year, and the total annual economic value of South Korea’s green roof projects is estimated to be KRW 90.5 billion (USD 76.7 million).

Experimental Study on the Modular Vertical Greening Shading in Summer

TL;DR: In this paper , a modular vertical greening shading device (MVGSD) was developed, and its detailed structure was introduced, including water supply mode, plant selection, and substrate preparation.

View through a window may influence recovery from surgery

Roger S. Ulrich
- 27 Apr 1984 -
TL;DR: Surgical patients assigned to rooms with windows looking out on a natural scene had shorter postoperative hospital stays, received fewer negative evaluative comments in nurses' notes, and took fewer potent analgesics than matched patients in similar Rooms with windows facing a brick building wall.
Journal ArticleDOI

Air pollution and health.

TL;DR: The evidence for adverse effects on health of selected air pollutants is discussed, and it is unclear whether a threshold concentration exists for particulate matter and ozone below which no effect on health is likely.

Cool surfaces and shade trees to reduce energy use and improve air quality in urban areas

TL;DR: In this article, an analysis of temperature trends for the last 100 years in several large U.S. cities indicate that, since ∼1940, temperatures in urban areas have increased by about 0.5-3.0°C.

Urban climates and heat islands: albedo, evapotranspiration, and anthropogenic heat

TL;DR: In this paper, the impacts of surface albedo, evapotranspiration, and anthropogenic heating on the near-surface climate are discussed, and numerical simulations and field measurements indicate that increasing vegetation cover can be effective in reducing the surface and air temperatures near the ground.
