TLDR
New features added to the refinement program SHELXL since 2008 are described and explained.Abstract:
The improvements in the crystal structure refinement program SHELXL have been closely coupled with the development and increasing importance of the CIF (Crystallographic Information Framework) format for validating and archiving crystal structures. An important simplification is that now only one file in CIF format (for convenience, referred to simply as `a CIF') containing embedded reflection data and SHELXL instructions is needed for a complete structure archive; the program SHREDCIF can be used to extract the .hkl and .ins files required for further refinement with SHELXL. Recent developments in SHELXL facilitate refinement against neutron diffraction data, the treatment of H atoms, the determination of absolute structure, the input of partial structure factors and the refinement of twinned and disordered structures. SHELXL is available free to academics for the Windows, Linux and Mac OS X operating systems, and is particularly suitable for multiple-core processors.read more

A new 3D luminescent Zn(II)–organic framework containing a quinoline-2,6-dicarboxylate linker for the highly selective sensing of Fe(III) ions
TL;DR: The recyclability experiment suggested that 1' can be used for the long-term detection of Fe3+ ions, and both fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) and photo-induced electron transfer (PET) processes play major roles in the selective detection of Feelers.

Solvent-induced structural diversity in tetranuclear Ni(ii) Schiff-base complexes: the first Ni4 single-molecule magnet with a defective dicubane-like topology.
TL;DR: Two tetranuclear NiII complexes were synthesized from a tridentate Schiff base ligand H2L (2-[(E)-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino]phenol) and Ni(CH3COO)2·4H2O, characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, variable temperature and field magnetic measurements, and single crystal X-ray analysis.

A robust 3D zinc(II)-organic framework for efficient dual detection of acetylacetone and Tb3+ ions.
TL;DR: In this paper, a dual-response fluorescent sensor was developed for detecting Tb3+ ions with rapid response times (within 1 min), low limits of detection (LOD) (5.02 × 10−6/1.15× 10−8 M, separately) and great anti-interference ability and recyclability towards the analytes.

TL;DR: 4‐Anilinoquinolines and 6,7‐quinoline substituents were identified as potent and narrow‐spectrum inhibitors of the cyclin G associated kinase (GAK), an important regulator of viral and bacterial entry into host cells.

The Cambridge Structural Database: a quarter of a million crystal structures and rising
TL;DR: The Cambridge Structural Database now contains data for more than a quarter of a million small-molecule crystal structures, and projections concerning future accession rates indicate that the CSD will contain at least 500,000 crystal structures by the year 2010.
