Review on safety of the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae

TL;DR: All relevant safety data of this fungus are summarized, and M. anisopliae is considered to be safe with minimal risks to vertebrates, humans and the environment.

New insights into the mechanisms of fungal pathogenesis in insects

TL;DR: Understanding the mechanisms of pathogenesis have parallels with those of some plant-pathogenic fungi, particularly in the areas of formation of an infection structure, entry into the host and toxin-mediated host death, will provide a rational basis for strain selection and improvement.

Nonribosomal Biosynthesis of Peptide Antibiotics

TL;DR: The reaction sequences leading to gramicidin S, tyrocidine, cyclosporine, bacitracin, polymyxin, actinomycin, enniatin, beauvericin, delta-(L-alpha-aminoadipyl)-L-cysteinyl-D-valine and linear gramicids are discussed.

Are There any Risks in Using Entomopathogenic Fungi for Pest Control, with Particular Reference to the Bioactive Metabolites of Metarhizium, Tolypocladium and Beauveria species?

TL;DR: This review summarizes data on specific secondary metabolites produced by the important genera Beauveria, Metarhizium and Tolypocladium and methods and strategies are suggested which could standardize the risk assessment of fungal biological control agents.

The role of destruxins in the pathogenicity of metarhizium anisopliae for three species of insect

TL;DR: It is concluded that, in the pathogenesis of M. anisopliae var an isopliae for all three insects, there is a relationship between the titer of DTX production of isolates in vitro and the killing power, and that if DTX kills locusts before the fungus has established itself, then the pathogen may not compete effectively with the saprophytic flora and, as a result, fails to sporulate.

Mass spectrometry of destruxins A and B, insecticidal cyclodepsipeptides produced by Metarrhizium anisopliae

TL;DR: In this article, the mass spectra of the destruxins, insecticidal cyclodepsipeptides, were examined and the major ion peaks at [M - 57], [M − 85], [ M − 142] and [M- 170] observed in the spectra were proved to be characteristic of the presence of the N-methylvalyl-N-methylalanyl moiety in the ring structure.
