TLDR
In this article, the derivative corrections to the effective action for a single D-brane in type-II superstring theory coupled to constant supergravity background fields were studied and the results were obtained via string σ -model loop calculations using the boundary state operator language, succinctly written in terms of the Riemann tensor for a non-symmetric metric.

Boundary string field theory of the DD̄ system

TL;DR: The boundary string field theory approach to tachyon condensation on the $D\overline{D}$ system was developed in this paper, with particular attention paid to the gauge fields, which combine with the tachyons in a natural way.

D=10 Super-Yang-Mills at O(alpha'^2)

TL;DR: In this article, the complete and most general action of D=10 super-Yang-Mills theory is constructed at the alpha'^2 level, using superspace techniques, and the Lorentz structure of the alpha''^2 corrections is completely determined, while (depending on the gauge group) there is some freedom in the adjoint structure.

AdS/CFT with flavour in electric and magnetic Kalb-Ramond fields

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate gauge/gravity duals with flavour for which pure-gauge Kalb-Ramond B fields are turned on in the background, into which a D7 brane probe is embedded.
Journal ArticleDOI

Emergent gravity from noncommutative space–time

TL;DR: In this paper, the Darboux theorem was used to show that self-dual electromagnetism in non-commutative space-time is equivalent to gravity.
Journal ArticleDOI

On $(\alpha')^2$ corrections to the D-brane action for non-geodesic world-volume embeddings

TL;DR: In this article, the terms of the effective D-brane action were derived to lowest order in the string coupling and their results are correct up to ambiguous terms which involve the second fundamental form of the Dbrane.

String theory and noncommutative geometry

TL;DR: In this article, a non-zero B-field is introduced for string theory and the entire string dynamics is described by a minimally coupled (supersymmetric) gauge theory on a noncommutative space, and the corrections away from this limit are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Non-linear electrodynamics from quantized strings

TL;DR: In this paper, the effective action for an abelian vector field coupled to the virtual open Bose string was computed in the tree and one-loop approximation for the string theory.

Dirac-Born-Infeld Action from Dirichlet Sigma Model

TL;DR: In this article, a σ-model calculation in the mixed Dirichlet-Neumann theory was performed and it was shown that the action of the Dirac-Born-Infeld type is restricted to (26−k)-dimensions.

Branes within branes

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the BPS states (those in reduced multiplets of supersymmetry) are equally fundamental to strong-weak coupling duality and to resolving singularities.
