Dynamic analysis of shallow shells with a doubly-curved triangular finite element

TLDR
In this paper, an efficient dynamic analysis capability for arbitrary shallow shell structures is developed and illustrated with several applications with experimental verifications, based on a compatible, doubly-curved shallow shell element of arbitrary triangular shape which includes thickness variations.

Introduction to finite element vibration analysis

TL;DR: In this article, the finite element displacement method was used for the analysis of free vibration of plates and shells, and for the simulation of forced response and forced response analysis of rigid and flexible plates.

A simple quadrilateral shell element

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a new four-noded quadrilateral shell element called QUAD4, which is based on isoparametric principles with modifications which relax excessive constraints.

Free vibration and parametric resonance of shear deformable functionally graded cylindrical panels

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated free vibration and dynamic instability of functionally graded cylindrical panels subjected to combined static and periodic axial forces and in thermal environment, and derived a semi-analytical approach, which takes the advantages of one-dimensional differential quadrature approximation, Galerkin technique and Bolotin's method to determine the natural frequencies and the unstable regions of the panel.
Journal ArticleDOI

Free vibration of functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite cylindrical panels

TL;DR: In this paper, the free vibration characteristics of composite plates reinforced with single walled carbon nanotubes are investigated and the energy-based Ritz method with Chebyshev polynomials as the basis functions is implemented.

Vibration studies on some integral rib-stiffened plates

TL;DR: In this paper, the first twenty-four vibration modes were predicted and measured for each plate, and detailed comparisons were presented for both frequencies and mode shapes, and good quantitative agreement was obtained in all cases.

A shallow shell finite element of triangular shape

TL;DR: In this paper, a conforming shallow shell finite element of arbitrary triangular shape is developed and applied to the solution of several static problems, which incorporates 36 generalized coordinates, namely the normal displacement w and its first and second derivatives plus the tangential displacements u and v and their first derivatives at each vertex.

Static and dynamic applications of a high- precision triangular plate bending element

TL;DR: In this article, a fully conforming plate bending element of arbitrary triangular shape is developed and applied to the solution of several static and dynamic plate problems, including analysis of a square plate, statics of an equilateral triangular simply supported plate, and vibrations of cantilevered triangular plates.
