TLDR
It was found that the addition of white-rot fungi to municipal solid waste (after 37days of composting) could be a useful strategy for enhancing the properties of the final compost product.About:

A systematic review on the composting of green waste: Feedstock quality and optimization strategies.
M. Reyes-Torres,Edgar Ricardo Oviedo-Ocaña,Isabel Domínguez,Dimitrios Komilis,Dimitrios Komilis,Antoni Sánchez +5 more
TL;DR: The promising strategies to improve composting of GW were: i) GW particle size reduction and ii) variations in operating parameters (aeration, temperature, and two-phase composting). These alternatives have successfully led to the reduction of process length and have managed to transform recalcitrant substances to a high-quality end-product.

Microbes as vital additives for solid waste composting
TL;DR: In this review, studies related to microbial composting of municipal solid and food waste were acknowledged and factors that could slow down the composting process and affect the compost quality were addressed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Bacillus subtilis on carbon components and microbial functional metabolism during cow manure-straw composting.
TL;DR: Redundancy analysis demonstrated that the pH and microbial functional metabolism were closely related to carbon sequestration during composting.

Degradation of paper mill wastewater sludge and cow dung by brown-rot fungi Oligoporus placenta and earthworm (Eisenia fetida) during vermicomposting
Renu Negi,Surindra Suthar +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of brown-rot fungi Oligoporus placenta and earthworm Eisenia fetida on decomposition of paper mill sludge was evaluated for 28 days and the results indicated that fungal inoculate in vermicomposting was effective in decomposing cellulose-rich industrial sludge.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of biochar addition on the OFMSW composting process under real conditions.
TL;DR: The abundance of potentially pathogenic microorganisms clearly decreased during the OFMSW composting process with the addition of biochar, and it was found out that biochar reduced the compost toxicity.

A photometric adaptation of the somogyi method for the determination of glucose
TL;DR: In this paper, the reliability of the various Somogyi-Shaffer-Hartmann (SHH) copper reagents for glucose determination in biological material has been established, which can be accomplished by omission of the iodide and iodate in their preparation, since these interfere with the molybdate color reagents.

Use of p-nitrophenyl phosphate for assay of soil phosphatase activity
M. A. Tabatabai,J. M. Bremner +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a simple method of assaying soil phosphatase activity is described, which involves colorimetric estimation of the p-nitrophenol released by the enzyme when the soil is incubated with buffered (pH 6·5) sodium pnphosphorus solution and toluene at 37°C for 1 hour.
Journal ArticleDOI
Composting of animal manures and chemical criteria for compost maturity assessment. A review
TL;DR: The basic concepts of the composting process and how manure characteristics can influence its performance are explained and a summary of those factors such as nitrogen losses, organic matter humification and compost maturity which affect the quality of composts produced by manure composting is presented.

Short-term assay of soil urease activity using colorimetric determination of ammonium
Ellen Kandeler,H. Gerber +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a rapid assay for soil urease in the absence of bacteriostatic agents has been developed, which comprises incubation of soil with an aqueous or buffered urea solution, extraction of ammonium with 1 N KCl and 0.01 NHCl and colorimetric NH4+ determination by a modified indophenol reaction.
